i am having problems with my brakes .[ i think anyway ]

i know the tt has got abs which stops the wheels from locking up . but i can stamp on my brake pedal and there is no attempt of the wheels even locking up . they just don't feel like they are working as they should . the only thing i done is replace the front pads after the mot . since then they have not been right . could this be just a case of just bleeding them out . and replacing the fluid .

i changed my brothers front pads and his stops fine . so am lost at the mo as to which way to aproach this . any ideas and info would be great . :headvswal:headvswal

Have you bleed out the old fluid replaced with new? you should, imagine if the fluid is 10 years old i doubt it will be good enough and prob black with dirt/water.

recon the calipers with new seals cleaned the pistons?

The new pads will also need bedding in a bit.

If you have bigger wheels on the brakes will need that extra bit more stopping power to lock up the brakes or for the abs to engage.

i noticed a great difference when i cleaned up my calipers and replaced standard hoses with braided and fitted a brake brace.

But mine still take that extra bit longer for abs to kick in.

This is why its so popular to fit a bigger setup, bigger calipers and disks.

What brand pads did you use? As per a previous thread I replied to, brake performance is very much a function of disc and pad materials working well together. Some pads offer more friction than others and will therefore perform differently. Same story for disc materials - some are just better than others.

As for the ABS - this is obviously related to brake performance. If your pad/disc combination isn't ideal then it'll never lock up the brakes and hence the ABS won't kick in. Alternatively, if you have a so-called "big brake" conversion done then this too will affect the way the ABS functions.

Fresh brake fluid is always a good idea but if you say they were working well before changing the pads then I would start looking at the pads first. As said above, they will need to be bedded in before they function properly so give it some time and things may well improve.

cheers for the replys . will change the fluid as it can't be all that good now . will also invest in some better quality pads as the ones i bought were cheapo things . you try to save money but always ends up costing more in the long run:headvswal
