transfer on ownership with insurance

OK hope someone will know the answer to this.

At the moment I've got my Nissan tt registed under my dads name for insurance purposes and myself as a second driver. The question is can he transfer the car over to me and still stay on the same insurance, him being the first named driver. Insurance is I think around £700 fully comp with CIS. Any ideas

? thanks rob

I dont thing you can do that because you are asked if you are the owner of the car when asked for your insurance

If his dad is the 'owner' accourding to the insurance, can't he say he bought the Z off his dad????

Or have I had too little sleep, too much to drink last night, not enough food over the last couple of day, feeling tired, run down and all round shattered and I am mis-reading the qustion..... biggrin.gif

Or alternativly I'm sure they would swap the details of the named and second driver over for a rather large increase to the premium!!

cheers I'll se what the insurance company says, all should I those blood sucking cretins

I think he can say that he bought the car, but I dont know if you can get normal insurance on a car which you dont own.

I want to put the registration into my name but keep the insurance in my dads name and myself as second driver as previous

rob I guess I would have to go on as the first named driver?

Insurance co's frown upon this - if you stack it and there is a big payout due, if they can prove you are the *main driver* (it doesnt matter who owns the car) and you are a named driver it could get sticky.

Leave the car registered in your dads name.

If anyone asks he is the main driver.

You are a named driver and NOT the main driver.

It is HIS car.

Otherwise it gets sticky.

They (insurance co's) record EVERY telephone conversation anyone has with them - so be VERY careful what you say, any problems they will pull the tape and hey presto no payout.

Be carefull and good luck bud!

Cheers mate, so you reakon that there is no way round it, if I want it in my name I have to be the first named driver, hence the main user?

thanks rob
