Solving oil pressure - gauge recommendation as well

Hi all,

Ok japfest coming up, trying to get an mot on the car and get it tip top and ready in time.

One problem the car has is it sounds tappety, guessing it has hydraulic lifters so I'm thinking oil pressure problem. Seems to only sound like one lifter is at fault (if I'm right) so maybe it's a dodgy one.

Either way the gauge on the dash is a bit rubbish and seems to move all over the place.

What oil pressure should I be seeing? Trying to buy a gauge/sandwich plate from Demon tweeks at the moment so I can get a good reading.

I'm also using the Mobil oil you get in Hellfrauds, should I be using something different that might cure this problem?

I have two track sessions at Japfest and I don't want to miss them or hurt the car :) Gotta get cracking, I also seem to have a seized aircon pump or something. Maybe I should just get the car to a Z specialist and say "please get it running sweet". I think a tune up wouldn't hurt as well as I think it's running pretty rich.

Thanks in advance, the countdown begins :)

Your tapping is probably due to a sludged up lifter and I have seen mentioned on here that you can buy an additive which rectifies it from halfrauds. I have not used it myself but it seems to be regularly recommended. Oil pressure is down to the condition of your engine and your oil. According to mileage which obviously equals wear, your oil pressure can vary on tick over when hot from about 25 psi to about 60. When cold mine goes off the clock and thats on a proper gauge. For oil, contact the oilman on here, he sells some cracking stuff, view his website oilman.co.uk

Thanks for your help :)

Odometer reads about 60k so I was hoping it's all good and has history to prove mileage.

Probably not worth messing about with oil pressure gauge if I can just fix it, I'll have a search for the additive :)

Thanks again

As per advice above, then searching for hydraulic valve on this forum pointed me to

Wynns Hydraulic Valve Lifter Treatment

this was £7 for a bottle at Hellfrauds. I got home, let the car run on the drive for 15 mins to warm up, stopped the car, poured the whole bottle in the oil, let it run for 3 mins again on the drive. Instantly sounded better. Then 20 mins drive and not a single noise even from the offset, car seems lots happier.

Top advice, top solution, problem solved, I'm very happy (provided the noise is gone again next time I start it ;) )

Thanks, onto the other problems! :hyper:
