Hi I'm new to the 300ZX world (previously mostly V8's and a Porche Carrera 911, it now feels good to kicks the V8's arses...),I live in Australia but it seems you guys are more into the 300zx scene than we are here. I saw a stage 3 chip on ebay here in Oz for a claimed 400rwhp made by Marobi ????

To me this seems virtually imposible with the following details :

With this chip Your 300zx will put out a staggering 400 BHP at the wheels.

You will need a free flow air filter.

A good free flowing exhaust.

440cc injectors........but this chip will work with standard 370cc injectors as long as you don't go mad with the boost, stay at around 14psi boost.......or just tweak your fuel pressure regulator for a bit more fuel.

This chip is mapped to adjust fueling and timing for up to 17 psi boost.

REMEMBER THE STOCK TURBO IS ONLY GOOD FOR 15 PSI TOPS.BUT THIS IS NOT THE LIMIT OF THE CHIP

Rev limiter is raised, and speed limiter is removed on imports.

Engine timing will want to be set at 15 degrees EXACTLY.

And of course the higher the octane rating petrol you use, the more performance.

As they say if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is.......

ALSO I have heard that if you insert boost valves it too will increase your power if so what size should the hole be and does it have to be in conjunction with a new ECU chip.

My boost is currently running at about 14 PSI. I havent played around with the setting but it doesnt seem to be pinging, but I do run out of steam at about 6000rpm (it is a Jap import).

Any help would certainly be appreciated.

with supporting mods on a good engine you will prob see 400bhp at the crank, at the wheels is a bit ambitious!

A chip will not work correctly with 370cc or 440cc injectors - it has to be one or the other.

There is no magic that happens in a chip, it's just got fuel and ignition parameters etc.

mine has pixie dust in it! :D

Rather than buying mods to suit your chip, it's worth taking some time to ask yourself what you want out of your car. Then you need to ask yourself what your budget is to achieve it. Here in the UK the BHP figures seem to be much lower than the US BHP figures even with idential mods. So I'm not sure what this is down to. I can only assume thier dyno's and our dyno's are different in some way.

People on this site can give you advice as to what has been tried and tested here and to what we have foudn to be an effective set up, but personally I wouldn't buy a chip until you know what you want.

If you already have an induction and an after martket exhaust then a chipped ECU may be your next move. However if you are thinking of bigger injectors, turbo's, forged pistons etc, then it may be worth trying to find an experienced mapper, someone that has had experience with the 300zx and get them to custom map a chip for your set up.

Most important quote from that:

And of course the higher the octane rating petrol you use, the more performance

What absolute and utter shite! Walk away....... IMO of course lol

Thanks for the cmments, My foremost requirement is reliability, followed by a car that is easy & fun to drive (ie as quick as I can get before having to make major mods like cracking open the motor etc). I dont want a race car that can only be driven at high speeds but around town is a nightmare !!!(thats why I sold my Porsche, fantastic on the open roads but a dog in the city).

I guess a nice target would be approx 400 rwhp if its not too unrealistic.

Also does anyone know how much extra hp is gained when the boost is increased to approx 14 psi ????

And does anyone have any experience with boost nozzles ? ie what size openings etcand does it have to be with a new chip, thanks heaps....

oh, but there is magic in the chips............;)

your "zahara 007" chip is great for my 300!!

cheers mate,

Maybe some of that Pixie Dust got in there ! ;)

Ok let's look at it in a different way, what do I have to do to my lovely car to get that kind of power ?

Will it still be a reliable car to drive ?

What costs would be involved ? approx ?

any help would be appreciated, thanks guys and maybe girls too , sorry !

first of all upgrade the brakes .....its a must , then you should be looking at boost controller , larger injectors 555 upgraded intercoolers and a larger radiator

also the clutch WILL need changing as stock it wont handle 400rwhp , realisticaly you should be looking at forged pistons at a minimum , for the bottem end if you upgrade tubs and manifolds you could be looking at 6 grand for the bits without the build costs

Steve

crank and longblock has been proven to be able to handle 500bhp on more than a few cars, but you will need forged pistons, but it depends on how old the engine is and how deep your pockets are.

as steve says rightly above. Dont even think about pumping up the ponies unless you sort the suspension and breaks out first. You will crash if you dont, there is no maybe about it.

Brake upgrades are fairly cheap actually, you can go mental but you dont have to.

Bigger rad isnt going to break the bank either.

Then its down to clutch etc.

But again its down to your budget.

your question's been pretty much answered above. just thought id add my 2p-worth :)

if youre looking for reliability but a bit of extra poke then a new zorst, conical intake, boost increase (via EBC or boost jets as theyre called over here ;) ) and an appropriate chip will be all you need. the first thing is to make sure that the engine is in good condition, or else all you'll be doing is sending the car to its grave earlier!

as said above, the chip is probably the last thing to worry about - get the mechanical bits sorted first, then select a chip (or have one burned for you) that suits your mods - it can be tweaked as much or as little as you want to get the best performance.

if you'll be driving the car hard, then think about cooling (uprated rad), brakes, and probably clutch, but if youre just looking for a bit of thrill off the lights now and then, then stock rad/clutch will get you by (up to about 350-380bhp)

in terms of boost jets - the common sizes are 1.2mm, 1mm and 0.8mm, the smaller the size, the more boost. these are cheap as chips (the potato ones ;) ) but can spike easily (that is, they dont govern boost like an electronic boost controller can) and at full throttle a 14psi jet could give you a little too much! bang!
