Just a little update for those of you that know Eliza and for anyone else who gives a gnats ass!! ;)

Eliza is now officially 'Off The Road' for the foreseeable future!

Basically the Tax is out tonight and insurance is out next week, so I've bought a small run-about (a Rover 220SDi Turbo) which I'll be using as my daily from now on, with a view to putting Eliza back on the road sometime in the future.

It's not just running costs that are against her at the moment, she still has all of the following problems......

No turbo boost!

Leaking rear crank seal

Buggered O2 sensor

Possible shot HICAS arms

+ a few other niggly little things

Along with the cosmetic problems....

Due to a combination of stone chips, heat and a somewhat dodgy paint job, the bonnet is looking like a patchwork quilt!!

All four alloys are in a bad state with patches of lacquer coming off.

and a few dents in the rear off-side.

So the plan is...... (once Karen and I have moved in together)

Remove engine and autobox,

Strip body shell, and then send away for re-spray

While away strip and rebuild engine

On return of body, strip and replace all suspension/steering bushes

Then rebuild Eliza to how she should look!

Nothing fancy, just all standard no power increases :)

Anyway, that's the plan, how long it'll take is another story! ;)

Cheers guys,

Yes I should still be going to some of the shows, depends on whether I'm allowed in a Non-Zed car!! ;) Because If I have to park miles away in a general parking area, then forget it as I'm not walking miles with my knacked foot!

As for moving, we've two houses to sell first, then it's whether there is already a garage there or whether I have to build one (preferable, then it's to MY spec ;) )

Unless i get a limited use policy for this summer, then we could be looking at two years before she's done :(

hi mate glad to hear things still going godd wth you and Karen, and that your not giving up on your zed sure we could get you on a stand so you dont have to walk lol. good luck with all the work and hope to see it back to all it's glory

I did wonder where you had gone Dave.

Best of luck with getting her sorted I know sometimes other priorities take the place of a car.

great to hear from you mate - blimey I didnt realise Eliza was in that bad shape - youve been looking after her for ages! good luck with her mate!

Thanks to all for your support, it's appreciated.

As for Eliza, I don't yet know where the money will come from, but saying that I DO have full support from Karen! Which is great :D

Karen has stopped me selling Eliza before, as she knows how much I love her!! ;) (both of them :hurl: )

As MAC says, other priorities takeover at times, so I'm sorry to say that this will probably be a VERY long term project. Although I'm looking at having her insured short term over the summer months, especially as we have the houses to sort first anyway.

Anyone recommend a cheap insurance company that'll do short term policies?

This is the first time in just over four years of owning her that I wont be able to use her :(

Anyway, back to the project, with the work I've listed above, would a budget of between £5k and £8k be a realistic amount, considering that the engine work will be done by myself, and the respray wont be a super-duper bare metal one (although it would of been nice to have it done that way) but will be a full (glass in, trim removed) one?

Now I know that some will say (and believe me, some already have) that I could buy a decent looking Zed for less than that without the hassle. To which my reply simply is "Doing it this way I KNOW for a fact as to what has (will have) been done to her, and buying another one could be a bag of trouble 3 months down the line!"

Dave

(Always appreciative of the help on here)

Good on Karen for stopping you from selling.... the girls got taste  :D

And nice to see you still around :)

Good luck with it all x
