Hi all, Tongiht I decided to leave work a little early to go from Sunderland to Hartlepool for a basketball game. All was fine apart from the dcrappy weather (which you get used to) Anyway I was travelling down the A19 which is a 70mph dual carraige way up here when my bike just seemed to simply die on me, then it seemed to kick about it for a second then die again (think the engine might have seized). Then at the same time my back wheel locked up (still not sure why) and then there was nothing i could do. I don't even ride really quick or anything. Anyway to cut this bit short I came off.

Surprisingly im not hurt at all, i have been very lucky as the bike went across in to the other lane sideways (a bit like a drift). Luckily the cars i had gone past didn't run me over.

1 car stopped (the one i went in front of).

I got up and just pushed the bike off as if nothing happened. The bloke said you have got to be kidding that i would just get up like that, pick up the bike and walk to the side of the road.

Anyway I told him I was ok and on he went (very kind of the guy to see if I was OK).

I then rang the AA around 5:10PM, by the time i got through and went through all of the crappy questions the lady said its going to be there by 6:20 (an hour), I was thinking they don't see someone at the side of a 70 road 3 feet off as dangerous. Anyway the girl started reading me all of the compliance stuff about exit the car from the near side and stand far back etc and at this time i just had to say something. It was along the lines of were you not listening, i was on a motorbike not in a car and im stuck next to lorries going past at 60 and 70 mph.

Anyway im standing there in the cold for almost an hour and then at 6:15 i decided to call them back and they advised me that mine had been put back to 6:40. then my phone cut off for some unknown reason so i rang back, I somehow managed to get the same erson again. and this time he says the screen was saying i had been put back to 7pm. I wasn't happy so complained about it. Then the control people called up and i told them what happened and they said they were sending a bike mechanic to look at it. I told them they were taking the mick because even if he did get it started i didn't want to ride it as the chain and everything were now very slack. So anyway they pulled in an emergency tow truck.

The guy came within 15 mins as promised.

While he was putting it on his flat bed he got a call advising of a family emergency.

Turned out his daughter just died:cry:

You can imagine the state the guy was in and he still ended up takinng me home (was in the right direction thankfully, plus was only 10 - 15 mins). Ill tell you what though my heart completely sank, i felt so sorry for the guy, as you can imagine he could hardly drive.

He held together very well but really struggled, i'd have been glad to wait another couple of hours for him to go to his family.

Poor bloke, im absolutely gutted for him. She was only 26 and nothing wrong with her.

Any way I am now completely without transport until duffer fixes the zed. Well its that or i need to buy something for in the meantime (but then couldn't pay for the car). Im kind of stuck though as i need something to travel around in.

Waht should I do???

Also I will save my prayers for the man who came out.

Jesus!!! You were very lucky, not only to come off un injured at 70, but not being whacked by a car in the process. I dont think i would be able to concentrate on driving someone home if i got that kind of call.

Glad to hear you are ok( how i dont know)

I was thinking of selling my bike, starting to think about safety more now I'm getting older, but I'm going to have to wait until the Zeds fixed first.

I have been using the girlfriends car for the last month with the bad weather, its just a pain having to taxi her around all the time so that I get to keep her car.

when you come off a bike as long as you dont collide with anything your gear should soak up the slide.

But that seriosuly sounds like a script from eastenders or something, somne serious armagedon there.

Glad your ok,

sorry for the guys daughter thats very sad to hear

Mate, what a night. Thank god your ok. I had an crash at 40mph and ended up in hospitla for 4 months!! You were really lucky.

Very sorry for the recovery guy though.

Well I'm glad you're ok after that Bird!

But OMG for the AA man! I just don't know what I would do if I lost any of my kids, the bottom would just fall out your world no doubt.

RIP AA man's daughter.

Fookin 'ell Lee!!! YHPM ;)

Alex what bike you got?

With regards to my hear i didn't have any leathers on. I had a good bike jacket and jeans under my wind trousers. It was more of a bounce then a slide as the bike kind of went sideways then kind of tossed me up

lmao....didn't know you had a problem with wind Lee.... glad your ok mate... :)

glad you are ok Lee!!

The poor AA man!! just another example of how our every day moans and groans are completely unneceesary.

Keep your chin up, shame my red zed gasket is blown or you would have been welcome to use it as transport!!

glad to hear your ok bird, probably the wet acted as a lubricant and added drag to you so you slid along to a stop, in the dry you probably would of been tossed a bit more, feeling for the recovery driver though.

fookin ell bud, you need to get a lucky rabbits foot or something, infact fook it, you need to hang a full fookin rabbit and hutch around your neck

would your bike insurance not give you a courtesy vehicle

  • Author

Insurance would only give you a courtesy vehicle if they are fixing it. My bike would be written off but its not worth claiming for mate
