Right, the old stereo I had was a JVC double din 2stacker. Wiring isn't a mess, it's very tidy, but I can't make head nor tail of it. I am considering chopping all of it out as I'm running new cables anyway and want to save some space behind, so will put bullet connectors on the new wires and bullet connectors on the ISO loom that comes with my new Alpine head unit. Unfortunately, it looks like this...what's that grey thing? I can't find any reference to it in the manual.

So all I'll need is a live feed? Do I need an ignition feed too? What point do I spur this off at? Oh, I also need to earth the headunit out, which is straight forward.

The electric areal...now, I've had a look at the back of it (OEM Nissan aerial socket). Looks like it takes a pulse from the headunit to extend/retract as there is the main co-axial as well as another black wire. Am I thinking correctly?

Usually the red wire is the ignition controlled feed, the yellow is the permanent feed and the aerial is controlled by the blue accesory wire.

So what do I wire the blue to? The black lead that runs in tandem with the aerial cable?

Ok...the grey thing is actually a fuse. :o

Might chop it out and fit a smaller assembly as it's huge!

Dont chop the fuse out, it looks like its a fused resistor rather than just a fuse, I did this once on a pioneer unit and it fooked it up.

Si if you want I'll photocopy my service manual and send it down to you? The online version is quite badly chopped and makes no sense :(

Its not just a fuse - its a noise surpressor ;)

Right ok, well I'll have to extend the wiring and try and place it somewhere else. I have really limited space to work with because I've gone for the large 2din flat screen. Not sure where to mount it though. Maybe up underneath the steering column shroud.

That would be great mate! Thanks. :)

I thought it might have something to do with noise reduction as it's on the main feed. I'm good to extend the wiring and move it then.

Alpine indicate the following....

Red: Accessory...would I use that for ignition feed??

Blue: antenna

Pink/Black: Audio interrupt lead...what's this for? Does it mute if the system is connected to phone or satnav?

Blue/white: remote turn-on...what's this?

Yellow/blue: Parking brake...WTF??

  • Author

Remote turn on is for amp...cool...right. Getting somewhere. As I thought, audio interupt is for phone, so can ignore that one.

Still have no idea what the parking brake lead is for!

That would be great mate! Thanks. :)

Ok mate will be in a position to send on tuesday is that ok? The handbrake wire is to turn the dvd display on as your not legally allowed to have a film playing while driving ;)

Can I disable that function? Just wire the parking brake lead straight to ignition feed?

Yeah, not in a hurry to install it. Want to take my time and do it correctly. :)

Just wire that lead to earth bud :) Will let you know when its ready for posting and you can send me your address :)

Ok cool. I thought it acted as a switch and therefore needed a + to it?

...am I right in thinking that the accessory wire should be wired to the smaller of the 2 black leads going to the antenna? At the moment they aren't and the antenna still goes up and down when the radio is/was switched on on the old system.

NO! Accessory wire should be wired to the switched acc line from the ignition switch

This would power the antenna when ignition is on rather than when HU was on?

The remote wire does the antenna and amps - the acc is to actually turn the unit on by the ignition. The permanent supply keeps the memory in the HU ;)

How does the antenna work then (actuate)? Sorry, not all that clued up on the Zs wiring.

Si do you want me to wire it for you?

Can you do that? Well, I can wire most of it. Just need someone to check it over. If you're offering that would be great!
