What sort of boost pressure can you run with wiseco pistons fitted and standard head gasket and rods, is 12psi ok?

If I want to run 21psi are we talking eagle rods, wiseco pistons and cometic H/G.

Obviously there will be different management, 550cc injectors as well.

Standard tubs can run well up to 14-15psi after that its just superheating the air.

And yes wiseco pistons can handle more than that anyway upto 700bhp if im correct. :) 550 injectors is more than enough for 12psi.

Standard HG will do fine for 12psi also.

If your going for big power with 21psi then your going to have to do some research on the internals you need, Im guessing that you prob will need cometic head gaskets and bigger than 550 injectors.

Most people run 13/14psi with stock everything else, just Exhaust, Induction and chip.

Injectors are the limiting factor and are maxing at around 15psi...as are the stock Intercoolers.

Stock tubs are good for 17/18psi before they become inefficient, but don't expect them to last long if they are already under high mileage.

Change to aftermarket forged rods if your chasing 600+

If your looking to run boost over 20psi then I would consider getting the Block and heads mig wired instead.

So who was it who told me stock rods were already forged?

Legrath 17-18 psi is too much on stock tubs. at least thats what i was told?

What bhp can you see with oem rods?

Stock rods forged but not the highest quality, I meant aftermarket forged....

No, stock tubs are good for up to 18psi, proven many times, but they wont last long and your much better off with bigger aftermarket anyway. I wouldn't bother running them that high.

No, stock tubs are good for up to 18psi, proven many times. After that they just produce too much heat

Ive heard too many peeps advise against running them at 17psi as they create too much heat.

See the thing is if im reconning mine with 360 thrust and stepgap pistons they should be able cope with the extra psi better and possibly last longer?

I ran my standard tt on 16- 17 psi for a year with no problems at all and was running just about 400bhp on the dyno but i had played with it and its not advisable to go over 15 psi on stock injectors !

So.............. if i have

reconned turbos (360thrust and step gap pistons)

wiseco pistons

new bearings

new HG

new uprated valve springs

550 injectors

exhaust decat

induction

and ecu upgrade i should see what kinda bhp safley

wel il have stock intercoolers till further on down the line, then il go uprated side ones.

just stick with 16 psi max until you get it set up properly and uprate your intercoolers !

and what Paul means by Map properly, is on a rolling road. Off the shelf chips are designed for up to around 1 bar. When your raising boost further you really want to get a custom map done.

Stock intercoolers become inefficient at anything over stock boost pressure and I would'nt run more than 1 bar with them.

If you can get new bigger turbo's then I would recommend it. They will produce far more power at lower boost than stock turbos becuase they run much cooler and the stock tubs tend to run out of steam at higher rpm too. You will regret going forged and having bigger injectors but sticking with the stock tubs.

You could always recon your stock tubs and sell them to get back some money towards it. Bigger tubs available from £1k up

So far the car will have

Wiseco's

550cc injectors

Aftermarket ECU

and will run 400bhp@12psi and 500bhp@21psi

I am concened the OEM H/Gasket and stock rods won't cope when I run 500 on the odd occasion!

I know its the right thing to get bgger tubs but i have kinda run out of money and i want my rebuild now grrrrr, i know il be making alot of money in the summer so think il wait till then to get bigger tubs.

in the mean time il be more than happy with 350bhp ish il even be happy with a car running perfect as standard, as mine is REALLY starting to smoke now its embarrasing. :)

Out of curiosity,

My set up used to be :-

Stock tubs, injectors and zorst, JD chip, Apexi filter and 1.2mm boost jets running at around 13PSI. I then fitted 1.0mm boost jets and got around 15PSI but got dett at high RPM.

My set up is now :-

as above plus, Divorced wastegate down pipes, decat, powerflow cat back and OS Giken Twin Plate Clutch and Fly

My question is, would I still get dett if I refitted the 1.0mm boost jest or do I have an underlying problem ?

CheerZ

Paul

it all depends on so many different things that there is no way you can say how each car will react. timing fuel map and weather all contribute to what you will get out of it im afraid !

Theres a slight chance your car will run safe on standard injectors at that psi best not to risk it until further mods IMO. Everything would have to be running at 100% (injectors/sparks/fuel octane/air intake/timing) for you to eliminate dett and there is still no guarantee youl be safe on a hot day.

over to you Paul.

Are those flywheel or rear wheel HP figures ?

You could get the block and head mig wired for extra head gasket safety.

What turbo's are you going to run ? and what Intercoolers ?

Something you should all think about is running costs afterwards. I have not gone mad on mine, Wiseco pistons, and uprated Z1 turbos and retained the standard injectors, and my ECU is some fancy Jap Racing thingy, but last weekends run down to the meet at Princetown on Dartmoor was an eye opener. I filled up in Bristol and drove down to Dartmoor and then had to fill up again at Exeter to get home. You are probably talking about 15 mpg on a run, and that;s with an engine totally refurbished and put on Conzult to verify the settings and running absolutely superb. Mind you I don't hang about but beware of getting more power and sacrificing affordable running costs.

ive considered that.....

I thought to hell with it.. more more power..

i dont drive it alot its my toy.

But i have used it on the odd occasion and been shocked at how much it drinks but hay these are the sacrifices we take for a powerful car :)

Which Z1 tubs did you go for John ?
