Has anyone insured there car without the "road risks" part while it is off the road ?

My car wont be driveable for another month or 2 at least, but Im worried about theft or damage to it in the meantime but dont really want to pay for full cover when it wont be going anywhere.

Do all insurance companies offer this sort of cover, how would it work with valuation...etc ? In the eyes of an insurer its not worth much when its in bits and does'nt go anywhere, but its worth a hell of a lot of money to me in Parts and time if anything was to happen to it !

You can get cover for this, while my car was garaged I was quoted about £120 per year I think. Give your insurer a call.

Yes you can.......

......some classic insurance policies do "laying-up" cover for when your car is off the road for renovation works etc - which can be quite common if you own a classic car!

Footman James do it - I used to be insured with them when I owned a 1974 Jag XJ6. IIRC it cost me next to nothing; afterall I was only paying £75 to insure the car fully comp for road use ;)

It was 10 years ago though..........

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I tried this with my current insurer as my car is off the road (and will be for some considerable time). I was told that (a) they don't offer insurance without the road element in it (as you put it) and (b) if I were to change from fully comp to Third Party then I wouldn't be able to take it back to fully comp once the car is back on the road. I'm sure this is a load of BS but in the end I had to leave it on fully comp eventhough I haven't driven her out of the garage for over 6 months now! Not sure how this information is any help to you David but I thought I'd share it any way ;)

Cheers!

Try the Heritage Classic policy from Norton Insurance - http://www.norton-ib.co.uk/ - Dave.

The swb of mine (including mods) in Rooksbridge is £170 for 1500 miles. They also do 'laid-up' (I think that's how they term it!) insurance (from about £40 apparently!) and track day cover for classic cars. Still the best value I can find for mine.............
