How i changed my rear diff bushings with subframe in situ

Once i had fitted the front diff bushing which were a piece off piss, (see pic)

i moved onto the rear press fitted bushings... Now these were a bugger.

So heres how i replaced them with the subframe still attached.

After a few wacks with a hammer a couple dry atempts to push them in it was obvious these were not going in without a fight.

So i tried a number of things that were clearly not gunna work. But soon enough just like one of those old cartoons where a light bulb appears ontop of the characters head, an idea sprung to mind.

first i greased the inside of the subframe where the bush sits once pressed in (this helps with the pressing)

One thing i also did was fit the bush in the other way round with the smaller lip facing the rear, which IMO doesnt make a bit of difference except it comes very close to touching the HICAS rack.

Then I opened the zeds boot pulled away the carpet and grabbed the aluminium car jack that comes with every zed as standard.

I wedged the jack between the stuborn bush, a thick piece of solid metal and across to meet the middle of the subframe. Its good practice to place a bit of wood between the jack and the subframe but i did without and honestly it didnt leave a mark or bend the frame in anyway. See below

I was careful and made sure the long thread on the jack did not come in contact with the body of the car, it was a close call (about .5mm).

Sure enough i began to extend the jack and after a few turns it popped in.

I then continued to extand the jack and squeeze the remainder of the bush until it sat in its place.

vola I gave myself a pat on the back :)

See you dont have to remove the subframe after all :D
