As above, went outside to fit my new blingy bits to find this strange marking all over my paintwork  As you might have known had my spoiler fitted and collected the z yesterday. It was raining and the car was wet so never really took much notice. Came home parked the car up and left it until today. Its like the car has been wiped with a cloth and left a water type drip mark all over bonnet, wings, doors and pretty much everywhere. Needless to say I took it straight to body shop but the boss wasnt there, had a chat with the guy who works there but he dont know what it is...it has eaten into laquer. Got to take it back in morning to show the sprayer. Just wanted to ask if anyone has got any ideas what it could be? Really upset at mo, we have tried to polish it out but it aint moving. And I have got to try and get the bloke to admit he has wiped it with something nasty on the cloth that has made this react like that, else I am looking to fork out for another respray which I really dont think is fair :headvswal

i wonder is it what they call " fish eyes" afaik this results from not properly preparing the surface before painting, and bad spraying

just spoke to a sprayer friend of mine, there could be a couple of reasons for what you describe

moisture in the paint

reaction of the paint to silicone(from polish if the surface not cleaned well)

or silicone being used in the spray shop

whatever caused it, they should be liable, good luck with the follow up

Fish eyes is silicone (polish usually) on the surface that has not been prepared properly :) If the car has been sprayed with no probs, i doubt its that :)

Its been done for 6 mths with no problems, its got to be what my mate said, been put in to dry, covered up whilst still wet in places. Hopefully will buff out, but it shouldnt need to be it should have been done properly. He been having women troubles and I feel his mind not on the job. Hasnt even flattened and polished tailgate...had the cheek to say he done tail gate for free as he charges £100 per panel

As you have mentioned lisa it sounds like the car was wet when the sheet was put over it and dried whilst in the booth, seen it happen lots of times and and will polish out if thats the cause.

sounds like wheel acid was it parked near a valet bay?

Dunno mate, hope not  its too random for that tho

i would suspect a solvent of some sort if a chap has attacked the markes with g3 and a buffer with a compound head and it didnt shift then something has distorted the clearcoat wich would have to be something solvent based also can you see if the markes are into the paint or onto the paint this will indicate how long somethings been on there or ho much solvent is present in whatevers on there as example wheelacid would eat into the paint whereas treesap will sit ontop of eat also bird poo can eat into paint hth

I know what you mean, really dont know tho. Its like drips been wiped, really hard to describe. Sort of in the paint  Will take some pics at the meet tmw and post them up

i still reckon its thinners or drips of laquer :)

dont make much difference now though , i just hope you can sort it out lisa

£100 per panel for a flat and polish? if that was the case id be a bloody rich man by now :D

like the dried water on a shower enclosure?

Hi Lisa

I have seen something similiar when a workshop blew a gun out with thinners outside (they had been priming a panel outside the booth)- forgetting vehicles parked a little way away- breeze carried droplets across onto parked cars! :headvswal

By the way I think Lisa meant he said £100 a panel to respray.

Best of luck

Dave
