Hi guys, Sent the car off for an MOT today and to be honnest, thought it would fly through but it never. Anyway there are afew little points that the car failed on such as the numberplate which SHOULD be within the legal requirements but obviously not :x: , Nearside and Offside headlamp aim too low but what concerns me the most is that it failed on the 'Nearside and Offside rear (to flexy) brake pipe Excessively corroded' ( Thats exactly word for word on the MOT Certificate )

Can anyone give me an idea of what sort of price are we talking about for the brake problem? Ive been quoted £500.. What do you think?

Any ideas as this is really my main concern.

Much appreciated for any help

Rob

Its a subframe off job to do those so the price is pretty much correct unforts :(

It would appear that the headlights will become an issue for every MOT these days as they have to put them on the ramp to test them and so can charge you again. I got caught out this way.

Good luck getting it sorted.

i would get a wire brush to it and paint the pipe. ive know garages to call plaky paint excessive corrosion when it blatently isnt.

... If they subsequently burst when you are emergency stopping you'll know then that they should have been changed for MOT!! (remember it's a 150mph+ car)

Thanks for everyones input on this matter, really appreciate it.. Looks like im going to be £500 down then and nothing really to show for it :(.. I would rather spend £500 on performance parts but i guess the brakes are kinda important LOL ;).

Could you not reroute the brake line around the subframe, as the lines don't have to follow the same path as the orignals they just have to be supported.

I had to pay £600 or so for that job and piping only costs about £20. It's as Andy Duff says a subframe off job and quite time consuming.

the pipes can be done by just lowering the subframe rather than removing it, still takes a bit of time and is awkward but can be done.

no point in trying to re-route the pipes because of the location of the abs unit

means you have to drop the subframe to get into it anyway.

Strange that it should fail on a number plate as i thought they had suspended the number plate rules in the MOT due to the ministry of transport getting the wording wrong. Our RX8 passed the mot at a dealer with a highly mis spaced reg with no maker identifications on it.

If they are telling you the plates need maker names on them they are wrong as this only applies to cars made after 2001.

Probably a waste of a post really as a number plate is only a couple of quid!!

Not a waste of a post at all mate :). I also thought this about the cars being made after 2001 have to show the maker names etc, but not before 2001. Its becoming a pain in the a** to be honnest as ive changed the number plates twice already due to people moaning about size, letter height, borders etc and im starting to get bored of it.

In my eyes as long as the numbers/letters are clearly shown and not too small (which they aren't as ive copied the size from DVLA's Imported Vehicle section) then i dont see a problem and I dont see why they should either.

I always get 2 sets of plates made and use heavy duty Velcro to fix front and back plates. That way I can swap out my 'show' plates for the normal ones in a jiffy.

Having said that my show plates are only about 1 cm of cue with one letter
