I gave up about 2 years ago when my youngest was born. I went cold turkey and would'nt do it any other way. Felt like shit for 2 days then was physically fine after that. After that its just the habit you need to mentally get over. Chewing gum helped me with that.

I dont agree with the patches, I may be wrong but from what I understood the nicotine is out of your system in 48hrs anyway, , so the patches just drag it out longer. it all to do with conditioning your mind.

From what I understand there are two obstacles to overcome, the physical and the mental. The physical is the nicotine in your system and the mental is the habit. Going cold turkey means you tackle both at the same time, which is the most difficult but probably the best if you can do it. The patches allow a little nicotine in your system whilst you conquer the habit, then you stop the patches and and fight the nicotine starvation.

I'm an ex smoker having given up by cold turkey in my thirties (some thirty five years ago) but my wife still smokes 20 a day so I'm still at risk from passive smoking!

Giving advice for packing up smoking is all well and good but each person must find their own motivation for giving it up, the same method doesn't work for everyone. Having said that, my advice would be.....once you stop DO NOT HAVE ANOTHER SMOKE FOR ANY REASON....it's a very slippery slope. I 'gave up' once for six months and thought I could survive just one small cigar at a wedding, within a few weeks I was back to 20 fags per day......it took me over two years before I could take the step and pack it up again. That time I did NOT slip back and haven't smoked since, but I still consider myself an ex smoker and not a non smoker!

Well I went to Rich's (red zed) last night at 6pm, he done his magic and I havent touched a fag since :D Never had no NRT either until this morning which he said cut a patch in half and stick that on(which I know they dont work if cut i n half). Havent felt like a smoke and still dont now :p Popped in to see my friend last night and as soon as I walked in could smell the smoke, watched her smoke a fag and was nearly sick..... couldnt watch her as I was urging, lol. Could smell the smoke on me and in my hair it was horrible, lol. So whatever Rich has planted in my brain it seems to be working :hyper: He said if I was to try a fag that it wouldnt be a very nice feeling at all, after seeing what happened when I saw my mate smoking, I wont be even attempting to try and have one, cos I dont want one anyway :nana2: :D Thanks to Rich, he said it I would be amazed and I am

Hi Lisa, I just want to say thank you for the mention and don't worry you will not require anything else to assist you in this..You are already successful! You really wanted this and it is your mind that has set the powerful resolve .Listen to all the encouragement from others here ;it's fantastic !..Notice also the powerful mental stance of the successful people here enjoying the days ,weeks ,months and years FREE from it.Now you have the strength and it could not have happened to a nicer person ;)

Ive not had a smoke since Sunday night, It's killing me, I must say that going cold turkey isn't easy but I believe if you genuinely want to stop you will.

Its all in the willpower!

keep it up.
