profile too high though is'nt it ? Should be a 30 or at most a 35. You'll need to check on a Tyre calculator.

As above, i have 9.5" rims and was wondering if 285/40/18 tyres will be ok???

IMO... they are waaaaay too tall

265/35 -18 is the accepted size for the nearest rolling radius to stock. IIRC.

Also I run a 275 Mickey T on a 9.5"rim and in an ideal world it needs a 10"

So AFAIC its not a good choice at all :mac1:

But no doubt a whole posse of "experts" will be along to tell me how wrong/misguided I am! :x:

LOL, just PMd crotchrocket and said i'll have em

They just seem to good to pass up if i'm honest.

What kind of 'problems' am i going to incur???

285 is a fraction too wide for a 9.5" rim you really need a 10"+ for a 285

As mentioned above your profile is wrong so your speedo is going to read slow and your acceleration will suffer.

I ain't bothered about the speedo, but how slow will it read approx??? Also will it be a noticible difference in acceleration???

It will be almost 10% out. Depends how you do the maths

So your acceleration will be 10% slower.

the numbers are Stock 245/45-16 =817 revs per mile.

285/40-18 = 748 revs per mile

The main problem tho will actually fitting them under the arches. I think they might foul on the suspension on droop.

My real question is ... whats the point in fitting a tyre so badly sized when every tyre dealer in Britain can get you the "right" size

In my case there is no other suitable Mickey T to buy so Im stuck with the 274/40-17. The loss in accel is more than overuled by the hoooge increase in traction tho

The tyres will "hold" 600bhp with no spin ;)

Cos i can get the pair for £170 brand new, i just thought it is worth it, cos i'd be getting some really good tyres at a really good price.

I'm really undecided

I'm not really bothered by the speed reading, but if they are gonna rub the arches then i'm gonna have to have a think.

Well they are undoubtedly a pair of really good tyres at a very good price. Its just a pity they arent the best size for a 300. They would probably have sold within a day of listing if they were :D

I suppose so, i'll give them a miss and go for the conventional size of 265/35/18, that way there won't be any problems - life is simple again

Cheers everyone :)

I used to have 285/30's on mine and the ride is as hard as nails. I switched to 285/35's and it is great. No problems at all.

Just spoke with Maragoni and they are supplying 265/35/18's for my 9.5 rears.

What do you mean??? 265/35/18 is the recommended size :)

Are you sure there are wheels on that car, i could'nt concentrate for some reason

285/40/18 is to big for 9.5 rims, dont want your tyre walls at that angle on a Z. As said 265/35/18 is perfect for that size rim and the Z

Maragoni are not noted for gripping particularly well
