Just got the car (1993 TT Auto) out of hibernation and after fitting new battery is running very well, other than the knocking almost rattling noise that is now very noticable from the front nearside, might be worn bush or something similar first notice this last year.

ย

Car sailed through its MOT only a few hundred miles ago, noise seemes to be worse when first driving, no noise when under load or unloaded eg when cornering all is quiet, but on a straight that has uneven road surface knocks away like nobody business.

Going to have to get it sorted now, any ideas where I should start. There seems to be a distinct lack of specialist around this area (york), anyone know any common failings that I should get checked out first or indeed any specialist that could sort it for me.

ย

PS need new radiator cap also if anyone has one.

Would like to get someone that knows what there doing to look over my ZX regarding creaking knocking noise from front and one or two other bits. Anyone know anyone in the york area?

For the creaking noise get the lower suspension arms checked at the point where the tension rods bolt on. The knocking could be related to this or worn bushes / ball joints.

tbh any decent garage should be able to pinpoint a fault in the suspension.

get under the car, and use a big metal bar to wedge between the suspension parts and the bushings, see which parts have excess play and replace them with uprated bushings.

check if the front tension rod bushings have a sticky liquid over them if they have they are goners.

check the anti roll bar drop links as they could be worn.

check all the bushings

lower shock bushing

upper/lower arm bushings

and excess play in the bottom ball joints

the only one i know of in Yorkshire is Andy but hes not in York, hes in Rotherham
