Hope this isnt a repost , but

I'll bet this leaves the other tyre manufacturers feeling a bit flat..... :D

Radical new tyre design by Michelin. The next generation of tyres.

These tyres are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market very soon.

The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work on these tires.

This is what great R&D will do, and just think of the impact on existing technology:

a. no more air valves

b. no more air compressors at gas stations

c. no more repair kits

SCAN DOWN & SEE.

These are actual pictures taken in the South Carolina plant of Michelin. It will be awhile before they are available to the automotive industry.

Intersting to see what they are like, can see disadvantages and Im a bit skeptical about its advantages

edit: ok, had a read about them and the disadvantages dont really matter as they are only really going to be for Haulage vehicles.

how the hell would ya fit them?

and i think the outer wall of the tyre will probably be filled in with outher rubber just so you cant see through it and maybe for more security.

Yeh, those pics are just for demonstation of the design. Will look like a normal tyre.

It's proabaly the entire wheel, as for other bits getting in there, I can see some scum putting rocks and stones etc. in the gaps :headvswal

does tht mean we will have tiny little wheels now?

like 12 inches?

I think yhey will just be for Large commercial vehicles. Not suitable for Ordinary road cars and definatly not suitable for Performance cars.

Just found some more details on it...looks like it would be launched for commerical vehicles first, and then later on for Cars.

I guess wether it catches on or not would be down to lots of things like Road comfort and price. It says the tyres will be "tuned" for your specifiy vehicle, so would;nt be able to sell wheels with tyres anymore..etc

Probably wont be any more popular than the runflat tyres.

erm... its on a road car in the pics

would be sure there is a very well tested metal frame inside it all to possibly make more safe than the tyres of today.
