Go to a decent jewellers and they will explain about diamonds - cut, clarity and flaws. Probably Wikipedia would too, to be honest.

I'm no expert but I think Tiffanys is just chav aspirational - a good independent jeweller would be better IMHO and better value for money.

When I popped the question I went for platinum band, single princess cut diamond in a pretty good colour / minor flaws only. (actually I used a plastic ring and let her chose her own afterwards - there are size issues as well as style).

They say one month's salary is the right amount! Many jewellers will take an offer on the asking price - I got about 10% off engagement and wedding rings just for asking (bought separately).

Good luck with it all.

**** the missus see this

ER671_1White.JPG £10K ffs. she can keep dreaming I aint got £1k let alone 10 of the suckers.

Thats the same as mine :D but it wasnt 10k

i owuldnt want such an expensive ring tbh, i would more than likely lose it and be constantly worried about it getting nicked/ damaged etc

I used to worry about it, but not bothered no more, got used to it,lol

Ever the pesimist but would anyone agree that weddings and everything that comes with it, are the biggest rip off known to man?

Rings, dresses, parties, food, drink, venue etc

If its the choice of the fella it wouldnt be that expensive, its not us that have dreamed of the big day since they could walk. Its the bloody women, on the other hand me and the wife looked about and did it budget style on teh theory that we had lived together for 7 years and both thought the honeymoon and doing up the house was more important than the reception.

on the engagement and ring side, tracey has my mothers engagement ring which was her great grans and my grans wedding band. I have my grandads band but it just dont fit, and i never have worn jewlrey

Ive never dreamt of a a big day.

ffs wedding cakes can be up to 600 quid!! i can make my own for a fiver lol

or you could look in Goldsmiths...they have a millenium diamond collection there, which is great in that world wide, only 2000 of each piece of Jewellery will be made....must agree with Sara (Fairladygirl) Platinum....0.33 or above carrat diamond, white gold eventually turns a kind of yellow, nicotine colour...Gold if exceptionally common, platinum will mean your gonna get very VERY Lucky.

My tip would be put this

clicky

Im going to sound so nasty here ...but........ if you have only known her 5 months, do you really want to be spending thousands on a ring???

Ahem yeah :hyper: love at first sight & i have it bad im afraid its just the feeling i get when im with her

Seriously though, Just don't skint yourself for a ring, If you are spending Five thousand on that, How much will the wedding be expected to cost??? :D

The wedding cost less than the ring because we got married abroad and only had 150 guests :).

you should've went to the HALF PRICE JEWELLERS

seriously, if you think shes the 1 then go for it, i asked my other half after only 4 months and we're still together. we aint married yet but we have a 2 year old son together and we've been together 6 years and i'm not frightened to admit it but i love her to bits and could'nt be without her

I could never justify spending more than £500 on a ring.....I dont believe you'll ever notice the difference...and even if you could is it worth spending thousands more?

She'll stop showing it off to people after a week and lose interest, and nobody will ever pay any attention to it again !

I guess it helps that my wife isn't really into jewelery. She has lost 3 rings now  ...she's not having anymore !

i got engaged in tiffanys at new york just last month and can confirm it costs an arm and a leg....................the starting price for their newest exclusive engagement ring was just under £2000 and it was sooo small so ended up 4k lighter....... i suppose the nice glass of champagne in there afterwards help stop me sweating....

on the subject of new york i have to say nowhere in the world do you have to tip as much as you do there....i can thoroughly recommend the helsmley park lane hotel though the view from the 43rd floor over central park was worth every penny. and another tip go the the rockerfella tower rather than the empire state one as its miles better and you can go outside as well there

4k on a ring

thats a lot of handbags lol!!!

lol she was after one at 8k because the stone was a lot bigger.........no way was i shelling out that much

Congratulations Tooley I never thought I would live to see the day

i'm getting married tomorrow and we've only been together 13 years - i'm sure shes rushing into things ;)
