Things also look bleak with us too as to where the future is heading. I have to say though that this sort of thing is unfortunately industry standard for the career you have chosen :( with ever increasing competition and silly low rates for maintenance overseas the uk 'heavy maintenance' scene is rocky. Given time i think things might change.. especially when there is a major accident which highlights these overseas (non european mainly) bases using unqualified labour and paying 3p an hour and the caa get there teeth in!

You shouldnt let it get to you bud as whatever happens, we have no control over. Also, when fls aerospace made us all redundant after the 9/11 terrorist attacks the group of apprentices' that had not yet completed their training were all sent or offered other positions outside the company, this is srt's obligation as a company to help you lot find a suitable establishment to continue your training. Unfortunately it may not be in Ireland though :(

My 2pence worth would be to get ya head down and get your tickets... then get yourself in a line position... there will always be the requirement for line engineers no matter what happens to the heavy maintenance... and imo, the line environment is more enjoyable. Unless the contracting scene is for you, where you can earn lots of money but you will have to be prepared to travel regularly. Most importantly, try not to get worried or stressed about it chap, when one door closes, another door opens.
