I'v given up on the idea of polishing the lip of my alloys, its just impossible to get in there properly due to the spokes being raised.

So i'm gonna paint the spokes gold and the lip a bright silver.

Anyway my question is this, once i have sprayed the lip can i put masking tape on top of the basecoat, to enable me to paint the spokes in the gold colour???

Once i have done that i can laquer the whole wheel in one go.

Anyone had experience with this?

Yes mate, what you have said is the way of doing it. Make sure that you 'key up' the surface so as that your base primer sticks. A good tip when using masking tape is to place it onto a piece of material first ie clothing, carpet etc before using it on your rims, this way some of the adhesion is lost on the tape & is less likely to pull your paint off when removing. Allow plenty of time for paint to dry between coats.

Just what i wanted to know, cheers bud :D

I spray quite alot but i have never had to mask over basecoat. Sticking it to something first to loose some of the adhesive is an excellent tip.   I had maybe thought it was possible to buy some special masking tape, but this sounds like it will be fine. :)
