I have just ordered 4 turbo reapir kits from a company called Kansai Sport in the US they are for T25 tubs and they are an upgraded kit that includes the 360 degree thrust bearing and carbon seal. The same kit from Melett is £110 this guy is doing em for $65 plus delivery which is $35 if you order multiples its only 1 delivery charge. The only thing you would need to buy is the upgraded piston rings but Melett do them for £2.70 each. Pretty good cheap way to refurb your tubs and upgrade em without paying loads of money. I'm doing this myself so will keep you all posted on how it goes.

I was just looking at that kit on ebay it seems like a good deal. Any feedback on your turbo rebuild?

Did the parts come ok and are they good quality?

And how many of those uprated piston rings do i need for both turbos?

Getting there slowly. Got the spare set of tubs just got to find time to refurb em. The kits arrived and they look fine. Just need to get the step gap piston rings.

...how many of those uprated piston rings do i need for both turbos?

Just one step gap rear piston ring per turbo :)

Cheers big ears. :)

ive ordered two of those 360 kits i also just need the uprated step gap piston.

Whats the diference in having a 360 thrust then?

Just reliability or more turbo rpm and spool up time?

360 Deg bearing refers to the thrust bearing. Stock bearing is 270 Deg so the uprated bearing covers another 90 Deg of area.

If i'm honest, the endfloat never goes out of tolerance before the brass bearings wear out too much. They're evenly matched in the stock setup.

The big advantages comes in fitting the step gap seal. This is an absolute must.

The step gap just gives it a better seal.

I wasnt quite sure what the 360 thrust does.

i know what they look like and the difference but what does it do?

does it hold the bearing in better?

It's nothing to do with the brass bearings. The brass bearings control how much 'wobble' the shaft has. I.E. when the blades contact the case and mash up, the brass bearings have self destructed LOL

The 270/360 thrust bearing controls the endfloat of the compressor/impellor wheels and shaft.

Step gap ring is usefull when this part wears out in a few thousand miles. The step gap maintains a close to 100% seal. A normal straight cut seal will be spreading open at this stage and allowing oil past it to be burnt in the exhaust, hence the turbo smoke ;)

Rob.

It gives you another 90 Deg of bearing area for the end float. I have some stock 270 Deg thrust bearings @ work I could take a photo of.

TBH 270/360......... Stock 270 is good enough for a stock tub ;)
