coolant overflow.

did you over fill it at some point maybe?

and have you checked that it still has enough fluid in there?

Yes still coolant in there toped up a bit not much after it happened havent overfiled expansion botte or rad ,car still runs to temp ok heater works fine ,i dont understand.Maybe split pipe around the back of the block but its not leaking now.

theres an overflow thing that lets out fluid if it it gets too high. or if there was air trapped in the system it could cause it to just come out.

Do you mean the one on the expansion bottle or is there one around the back of the engine .

I had this , only had steam rising a minute or so after stopping , usually at the petrol station :headvswal , found a pihole in one of the n/s plenum coolant lines dripping straight onto the exhaust manifold , did a plenum bypass , fitting new coolant pipes going straight to the tubs , cures the problem and the chances of it happening again  :hyper: :hyper:

i had this and what a pain in the arse, its gonna be 1 of the pipes at the back of the engineit took me 8 hours to change it and that was on a lift t work, if you look at markzx's ride pictures theres 1 of the back of his engine, if i remember rightly its the red pipe in the middle

yeah like i said jimmy 8 fookin hours to change a piece of pipe 5 inches long, i could've made it a bit easier and took the pass side exhaust off but it kept me out of the wifes way :D

check the rubber pipe that runs through the bulkhead to the heater matrix, there are a lot of things round that area that can cause chaffing of that pipe

Thanks guys had it up on the ramp at garage today which work on zeds as well as other jap cars .They found a pin hole in one of the rear coolant rubber pipes he recons a pig of a job maybe drop gearbox down a bit , hose + 4 hours labour ,Ive booked it in dont fancey doing it myself. :headvswal

you dont need to take the gear box off, just take the passenger side exhaust off and with small hand and some long nose plyers he'll be able to get to it.

i had a similar problem a few weeks ago - aftermarket temp gauge rose way up but stock gauge stayed centre (yeah i know stock gauge is nearly useless but whenever that starts to rise i know for deffo im in trouble). as i pulled up there was some wisps of steam from the passenger side near corner of bonnet. rad was empty (definately full a few days before) and water was dripping from centre of engine bay kind of beneath the engine. brand new Koyo with s/steel pipes and silicone sleeves so i know the rad is ok. engine didnt feel overheated (ive been in a situation before where i had a genuine rad leak and the engine felt real hot). not dared run it since - recently had rebuild and was running on 4 cyls due definately to a dodgy PTU connection.

Those two hoses often go on Zeds, has happened to many of us! You can get at them from the top of the engine if you are patient and have a small handed helper! 4 hours labour seems a bit much for something so trivial (although admittedly awkward).

I dont think he means dropping the gear box just undoing the support and tilting it back for more access.
