Ok as mentioned before the gearbox drone is the same as it was and it deffinately the auto-box. Just had to use it to goto Citizens Advice Bureau (which was not open) to see what actions i can take against this man who sold me the car. Personally I dont think its a real MOT paper it has now as was only issued like 500miles ago and so much is appearing wrong now..... Well just about got it back home sounds like its only firing on 4-5 cylinder, bick lack of power and what can only be explained as an old old sierra racket coming from under the hood. Also when I got out I opened the bonnet and there is a burning smell coming through the vents and when I look at the side of the Turbo it looks like its about to crack and fall off....

Whos good with law as I cannot get to cab before they Shut :headvswal

was it sold as seen?

Mot are vehicle safety check more than anything else. I wouldn,t imagine they have much to do with the actual running aside from emissions

no sold as seen on reciept but i cant get the guy to answer his phone or his emails. I am sick of calling now the car has only done 75 miles since i bought it.

yeah like above those problems wont effect mot.

when you say the side of the turbo what exactly you looking at coz you cant see the turbo from under the bonnet.

if there is a burning smell then its prob an oil leak dripping onto on of the manifolds or turbos just like what i have but mine got real bad.

You need to find out why its only firing on 4-5 cylinders check sparks, injectors, ptu etc. does it run ok when first started from cold?

ok it quotes:

"Private

If you buy privately, you won't be protected legally if the car doesn't come up to scratch. It's up to you to ask the right questions and have the car thoroughly inspected before you buy."

but on the other hand it also states:

The only legal terms that cover a private sale contract are:

* the seller must have the right to sell the car

* the vehicle should not be misrepresented

* it should match its description:

o for example, if the ad states that there is a valid MOT, there should be a valid MOT.

The part I higlighted is because he said it was still in Km's but I find out it was changed over in 2000 to miles once I get home and check through all the papers again. I am sure this was not there the time I viewed it over.

i should imagine the only way to pursue this would be through the small claims court, which could end up costing a lot in the long run.

I would get someone in the know to give he car a once over first. It might cost a few quid but could save pounds in the long run

it's quite hard, though not impossible, to prove misrepresentation in the courts - his defence would be that to the best of his knowledge the mileage was still in kms... legally that would have been an 'innocent misrepresentation' and, at best, you would be able to sue for the difference in price the mileage would have made...

As for the car being, potentially, a dog - unless you can prove that he knew and withheld information it's pretty much a no-go.

It sounds like it'd be worth getting someone to glance over the car as said- misfiring and noisy lifters are common problems - do a search on here, but misfiring is 99% of the time dodgy connectors. Autoboxes do go very often... never had one in a zed myself, but sometimes cleaning the filters can give a (possibly temporary) reprieve...

Good luck!

ok seems ok now, took connectors off and cleaned them, checked plugs and then noticed the air compressor belt gone lol. found out what the droning was also and it appears to be the propshaft so a nice amount of money to go but got the number of a guy who recons it all so gonna give him a try. :D

This is not an unusual experience for new Z owners. What is relatively unusual is that your new car starts every time, runs smoothly, drives faultlessly and is extremely reliable. They might have been when new but lots of these are nearly 20 years old now!

I don't think you could find a 20 year old Toyota that's "Toyota reliable" these days

Z's are like most beautiful things- highly strung and expensive when they go in a huff!

Hi mate I had mine for about 200 hundred miles and the spent a grand getting it made "safe" and then about 160 mile later it decided to loose a piston! and both turbos died

Hope yours turns out to be better than mine.

your not alone dude. i will have spent 3 grand by the end of next week and ive only had mine 3months.

mostly on just making it right.
