I've gotta '91 tt auto. Recently, i had the major 60k service(all belts, tensioners, plugs etc etc) done at a zed specialist garage. Since i've had the car back it runs like total crap!!!! i.e; idle is all over the place, when coming to a stop engine revs drop to the point where the engine nearly stalls but then picks up again, while slowly accelerating the engine will hesitate like its being held back, also there is now a knocking noise coming from the engine too which wasn't there before the service was done. Im really at a loose end at the mo,i expected to get my zed back running almost perfect as it was before but now i'm worried that these so called zx specialists have totally fooked my engine!! would be grateful if anyone could shed any light on what could be wrong with my lady and how to repair? cheers.

Number of causes really. Belt could be a tooth out (would explain revs all over the place). CAS could just need resetting though. Knocking noise is more than likely to do with the VVT springs in the intake cam sprockets

i've tried a new cas but no difference,i've been told by a few people that there could be tooth out somewhere so you've just backed that theory up,thanx m8,if the knocking noise is what you mentioned, is this a major worry?

Not major no as to check the belt is correct the covers will have to come off anyway ;) 4 x 7mm head screws on each sprocket (hold the plate on while undoing them). The spring is behind there but make sure you replace the o-rings between the cover plate and the sprocket though. The parts should not come to more than £15-£20 :)

If you need part numbers let me know but if you call MJP in the traders section on here then he'll know what you mean :) Also be sure to replace the two coolant hoses behind the upper pipe or they will blow sooner rather than later ;)

Cheers,

Andy

Dig the thread up Gaz lol. (Gaz = hellraiser = camp voice = rollneck man) :D
