Just bought my self a TIG welder and having a few problems.I can MIG weld but can't seem to get the hang of this and keep melting the tungstens and the ceramic cup thingy me bobs. :headvswal Does any one know of any tutorial sites or give me a few pointers.The ceramic cups also come in different sizes, what size do i need for what job ?Taa :D

Try not to let the Tungsten come into contact with the material that your welding. Before you weld, give it a quick sharpen (gives a better weld quality)

 

And there should be a guide with your machine about which ceramics to use with which thicknesses of material

I'll look in to this.I knew about the sharpening but the ceramics :confused: The machine is this one.

Hi Rubble, 12mm ceramic cups should be fine, make sure that the metal your welding is free from rust and scale,are you using the correct gas,are you using the wright amps,are you holding the tig torch at the wright distance from the work piece,have you got the connections to the machine in the wright place, if your working near an open window or door you could losing the gas from the draught. Just a few things that could give you your problems.

So many things for my little brain to cope with lol.I'll get some more cups at the weekend and have another go.It looked so easy on American hot rod :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

300 zed x you say use 12mm ceramics so i've had a look on line but they seem to be numbered not in mm.Do you know what number 12 mm is ? :)
