want to back up some movies i have (legally) downloaded but have never burned DVD's before or even if my laptop can do it. The laptop disc driver (which is original) says DVD-R/RW and DVD-ReWriteable and on "my computer" the cd drive is listed as "DVD-RW Drive" so pretty sure it should be possible.

The files are mainly AVI files and the blank discs i have got are DVD-R 120 min video 4.7gb data.

Can anybody advise me how to start burning these files so i can play them in my standalone DVD player on TV? Hoping there is free software i can download and it is pretty striaghtforward.

DivXtoDVD is a great, easy to use program. do a search for it :)

Also If you need to convert any files to another file type then AVS convertor is the best I've used.

Nero isn't quite straight forward as some may make out, it's best to know what you are doing to be able to obtain the best from it! (And YES, I use it all the time ;) )

A straight forward, and TOTALLY FREE, down-loadable DVD authoring/burning program is available from Sothink Media, web addy here for the download >> http://www.sothinkmedia.com/movie-dvd-maker/index.htm

It's a No-Frills burner prog, that will simply burn your AVI's etc onto a blank disc that you can then play in most standard DVD players (I say most, as some players WONT play non-original discs) You won't get any fancy menu's etc, so your film will play straight away, but it's about as simply as you can get!

Hope that is of help to you

Win avi video converter is good for changing anything from avi, divx, mpeg etc etc to Dvd writable files then use Nero, Easy as pie :D

You can buy these or use a torrent. But both proggies fairly simple to use.
