Right to sort out my CPU overheating problem

This is through no choice of my own by the way.

I bought a pipe radiator heat sink and fan and use premium silver heat sink compound. However the heatsink was too big an left wouldnt fit becuase my PSU was in the way. So I took out the PSU and put it on top of the computer to leave room and then just needing a larger case. Anyway, the PSU didnt last long and went POP in a very big way.

So now I needed a PSU and a case. I went to Scan and bought a lovley all aluminium, with a hit of carbon, case and a 350WATT PSU. The case has 3 large extracting fans inside to get a nice air flow going and they have filters to keep out all the dust. biggrin.gif

The result is, after £120 on case and PSU, my chip is now running 50ºish instead of the 70ºC it was and the case temperature it now 25-30ºC and not 40ºC and its 3 times quieter.

This is the case I now have. biggrin.gif

Try investing in a Coolercase or some new fan & thermo cooling kit from http://www.overclockers.co.uk

Tornado cases may sound a bit like a hoover but there's nothing that cools like them..

they also do a really good 5.25" bay hard drive cooler. (storm).

I think I might have a spare thermo-engine extreme (with the liquid amonia pipe) laying about if somebody needs it?

My XP2100 runs cooler than my Athlon 1.4 8)

Running with UD (United Devices, cancer research thingy, thrashes the nuts off the processor) in the background, my cpu was maxing about 75c now 70c on XP. Ooh my motherboard is toasting at 34c at the mo and my computer room is 28.8. Very warm. Got 5 fans in PC sucking and blowing as before I was making 82c on my Athlon.

Overclockers are good and offer good advice advice. They have some nice cases too, which I need to get.

Yeah, your XP should run cooler than the older Thunderbirds.

I must say, you guys do like to run 'em hot. Running the UD agent, the CPU is about 48 degrees, and mobo is about 32, and I dont like it that hot. This reminds me, must get a new machine, lol.
