Me too and I'd change a few other peoples lives as well. Like paying off their mortgages etc and stuff like that.

too true, what a difference to qaulity of life for you and your family (maybe some friends)

I'd go on holiday at last :)

i've always wondered with tax laws how easy it would be to give money to people and pay off mortgages as efficiently as possible, (guessing they pay 40% on anything you give them)

id move to France i think.

Im pretty sure you dont have to pay tax on a monetary gift.

Yes, you do. IIRC you are only allowed to give away £6K per year without tax getting paid somewhere.

Well how fooking daft is that!. Im sure there is a way youd be able to pay off, say someones mortgage without being taxed on it. Not sure how, but theyre has got to be a way

Tax on top of tax, on top of tax, on top of...

buy a property or exotic supercar worth hundreds of thousands yourself with cash, sell it to a family member for a nominal fee, let them sell the property/ supercar and pay the mortgage off lol

You can just pay off their mortgage and they don't pay tax as they haven't recieved the money. You could be giving them a loan on a as and when repayment basis.

You could set them up as a registered charity and give them a large income from your interest. This would reduce the amount of tax you would pay on your interest and they would only have to pay 5% onany proffits made.

If you had that much money, you'd have the best tax advisor in the world - so tax wouldn't be an issue... you'd exploit every loophole going and not give a toss if they came after you... the interest from your bank balance alone would cover legal fees!! Fight the system!

quite, tax only affects the poor and hardworking classes and not the uber rich

Not sure but that would be a Capital Gains Tax I suspect. Anyway, like was said, you just get the best tax advisor and he'd sort it out. I know someone who works in this area and he is one of those people who is able to ensure that people who get £20-30M bonuses only pay 4-10% tax. Sadly he isn't one of the people who gets those bonuses ...

Unfortunately, and contrary to popular belief, money does not guarantee happiness. Wealth gives you opportunities and options you didn't have before. It also comes with greater responsibilities and worries (like tax minimalization and investment portfolio performance). You can employ people to look after your money and invest it wisely to maximise your profits but there is just so much potential to be ripped off. People will forever be asking you for money (be it gifts, grant or loans) or in the extreme you'll be opening yourself (and your family) up to security risks previously not present.

One of my former MD's - Gary Corbett of Opera Telecom - is worth around £80m and despite his vast wealth he would be the first person to say that he's far from happy. He's gone through two divorces, tax investigations, etc, etc and he's forever moving money around to minimize his tax exposure. He's a workaholic by nature so hasn't given up working - he is in fact one of the most driven and ambitious entrepreneurs I know. True, he's got all the trappings of a good life but it hasn't made him happy.

I don't know who said the following: "I've been poor and happy and I've been rich and unhappy" ... and despite what I've written above I know which one I'd rather be ;)

i could be poor and happy, if every fooker wasnt forever trying to take even more off me!!

I'd go on holiday at last :)

There's something like a "living will" where you can bequeath money to people and providing you don't die in the next 7 years after that moment, they don't pay any tax on it.

complete uber nonsense

no one can convince me i wouldnt be happier with £95m in the bank than i am now
