I am having some issues with the speed and reliability of my connection and wondered if any of you internet wise members know what router I should get? Please. ;)

I am using a netgear router at the mo but wonder if being over 2 years old I could improve things by getting a newer more up ti date item? I am not sure what the spec is on it but surely after 2 years its a bit old. It wasnt the best when I got it.

Thanks

vini ;)

tbh netgear are pretty good and it shouldnt be causing you problems

I have a dlink but its not the best I have had

Safecom router I had died after 3 years but it was the most stable one ever.

Ive got this one...... bit of a PITA to setup.... took a 10 min call to belkin support but its worth it
this is one of the best ones on the market at the minute ;)

agreed ... damn good router .. I've been using this one for about 6 months with no problems.

Netgear had loads of problems with their first routers (overheating) but this one is reliable and works consistently well.

If you are having problems with your internet connection vince then I would contact your ISP and get them to do a line test to check because that is more than likely the problem, not your router.

If you have slow connection speeds, especially in the evening then you may be on Local Loop Unbundling with your ISP, they wont tell you that you are though .. even if you ask them ..

I like Buffalo routers, easy to set-up reliable and easy to flash to DD-WRT when you want more sophisticated s/w.

However, I doubt whether it's your router that's slowing the connection, far more likely to be line problems. Log on to it and check the error codes etc to see if it's trying to tell you anything.

Thanks for all your advice. Much appreciated. How does one "log on" Andy. Please? AND what should I log on to mate? :D

Point your browser to the internal router address. It's usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1

If that doesn't work then open a Dos window on the computer, eg by Run CMD and the type ipconfig

Look for the line which shows the default gateway and that will be the internal IP address of your router.
