With some of these big turbos spooling higher up the rev range, what would be involved in raising the redline to 8k rpm?

What is it that actually limits the max rpm? is it the strength of the rods or is the limit somewhere else?

There is a rev limiter in the ECU, it can be altered in custom maps.

would need altered cams to make use of that power at higher revs and probably stiffer Valve springs.....possibly solid lifters.

Sorry I didn't make myself clear - I dont mean electrical limitations, I mean what do I need to do to make it rev there without the engine going bang!

So its the head that that is the limiting part of the engine? The bottom end could cope with 8k rpm?

My £1500 SWB NA rev's to 8500 rpm and aparently the guy I got it off said its always done so and he had it 2 years. I've had it since August and it's still alive and hitting 8500rpm at least once or thrice or more times a day.

I don't know anything about the car other than the ECU has been wibbled and assume it still has stock internals

That's quite impressive actually dude! Would love to hear that singing @ 8,500rpm!

My Central 20 ECU which I used on my old slicktop is set at 7500 according to the label. I just drove that at the Pod (and elsewhere) till it wouldnt rev anymore..... and the engine is still going strong in it with its new owner
