Well mine are not legal then

no headlight washers or self leveling

Also the dipped beam must stay on with the main beam.

looks like 99 spec will be the only legal way (although they dont have headlight washers)

i think its time to start cleaning your headlights and putting high power halogens or something like that... the 99 specs wont be left levelling either i think...

I don't imagine the 99 spec are E-marked either (why bother certifying them for use in Europe when you're not selling the car there anymore ;)), so they wouldn't be legal regardless.

I did chuckle at the comment in the link about all HIDs being contrary to the road construction regs (even manufacturer fitted ones) but that "Europe approved them so we have to allow them here too"...

Thats stupid, the rules should apply to Standard Headlamps, but not cars with Projector style headlights.

If you compare a regular vehicle headlight fitted with HID's and a Z32's project style headlight with HID's you will see the problem they mentioned with beam patterns for the regular style headlight but not with the Projector style headlamp.

MOT stations may soon catch on to this.

well it's taken them over a year so far... can't see it ever being an issue. Worst case, fail mot, put standard bulbs back in, pass mot, refit HIDs - pain in the arse but aren't lots of things!!!

Could expect more trouble from police if they're poorly adjusted or dirty.

Agree with Legrath, should not really be a problem with projector headlamps, as source is the projector glass, and can adjust in the normal way.

Just because something is illegal does not mean the MOT man will pick up on it.

He couldn't give a monkeys about my number plate!

Of course many things get through the MOT, rear fogs etc.

Just letting you know what the official line is.

increased vision must be safer anyway.

What this means is that the '99 spec cars will not be approved unless the cleaning and/or self levelling part is resolved.

There is no reason for failure at MOT for HID's being fitted as long as they are working, headlamps correctly aligned and the correct beam pattern is produced it will pass.

MOT test regulations and construction and use regulations are different!

Not saying it wont change in the future, but it would be hard to enforce if the balasts are hidden an MOT station couldnt prove HID's are fitted, they are not allowed to strip anything to check.
