Hi,can any one help, can you adjust the tappets on a non turbo engine,or if they are self adjusting, would there be a head problem, thanks mick

they are hydraulic lifters. try some lifter treatment like wynns from halfords. how bad is the noise?

Treatment is a waste of time, once they start tapping, theres a reason for it, either they are clogged up, or the valve in side is blocked. I've stripped a few sets cleaned them, and that sorts it. I have had to throw some away too in the past.

The lifter treatment unclogs/unblocks them and usually works in my experience.

Thanks for your reply, does the heads have to come off, thanks mick

No heads do not have to come off, all connectors and harness on top of engine, coil packs, plenum, rad and cowling, fan, front belts, cas, timing covers, main crank pulley, timing belt, (might as well replace water pump timing belt and idle rollers when your in this far), rocker covers, cams.

I'm sure I missed a few things, it took me 1 1/2 to get to this stage

2 days putting it back together which was not as much fun

agree, have had good results from DECENT flushing additives. most you can buy retail from halfords etc are crap. try to get hold of the likes of Forte or Wurth that we use in the trade.

if they are physically worn then obviously no amount of flush will help & may even make things worse LOL!
