go and have a good crawl over it mate see what receipts they got for it or any work done or get someone who knows zeds to go with you

if the description is good and the photos look ok then bid away.

When you go to pay/collect the car you say you wanna test drive it to make sure it is exactly as described, if its not then they have broken ebay rules and you can walk away.

probelm is people ask for a deposit straight away which I'm sure they'd expect to keep if you walked away if it wasn't as described :(

No chance mate, if they are the ones who have made bad on the advert why should you have to pay for their wrongs ;)

I wont ever bid on the ones who want deposits as soon as the auction ends, unless id already seen the car and was happy with it

i just brought a car on e bay for £6900 the person wanted £200 deposit on the advert. i e mailed them before i placed bids to see if it would be ok to not send a paypal deposit (my feed back is 100%) seller was ok about it. genuine seller

thanks guys. It's just that I'm looking for a Mitsubishi Challenger and they don't seem to be too local. I'd want my mechanic to look over it as I don't really know them too well yet but have never bought a motor from Ebay ;)

Take note of the sellers feedback to, lots of transactions and still on 100% or near as dam it and probably be ok. i have bought a fair few off ebay, never really had a problem, i always bid les than there worth though just incase!

I have bought and sold a few on ebay over the years Never had a problem

I have never given or taken a deposit Cach on collection every time

:D

The reason people ask for a deposit at the end of the auction is because people win and never turn up.

I've tried to sell a car and a boat on there and it's soooo annoying when someone bids and then makes excuses.

My boat "sold" 3 times last year and each time buyers said they couldn't visit for a week or 2 then wouldn't reply to messages.

After leaving them bad feedback they miraculously got in touch making the same old excuses that their PC was broke and they were on holiday abroad so couldn't collect yet.

I waited over 3 months last summer for 3 buyers who messed me about and never turned up and by then it was impossible to sell over winter.

Wasted over £150 in eBay fee's - some of which I got back in the end but it took weeks each time only for it to happen again.

eBay is great for small items delivered through the post but cars and boats people have second thoughts and can't be arsed travelling.

I suppose people have different experiences

Like I said I have bought 3 and sold over 10 in the last 2 years and experienced none of these problems at all

I've bought two cars from E-bay and sold two cars on ebay.

Don't leave a desposit just tell them you will come round and pick it up within two days of winning.

Check the car over if it's got more problems that described or doesn;t meet the description you can walk away.

I've bought two cars from eBay, but I think that only one actually went through their system properly. Also, another that was a classified ad, so that doesn't really count.

Plus I sold my wreck of a Xantia (fully described), with no hassle from any of them.
