ok, i've just had my engine rebuilt but to complete my performance mods, i'm looking for either a new set of sidemounts or a fmic (if it can fit behind the standard bumper.)

I'm a great believer in you get what you pay for but i spotted this on ebay and just wondered what people thought?

Yeah, i've noticed some others. I found a sidemount kit for about £300 but like i said before, pay with peanuts and get monkeys!

think i might speak to danny and see what he's got on the go! At least then i'll know what im getting!

Have fitted a couple of the ebay FMIC kits on other zeds. The quality of the kits themselves were fine, the Hose clamps were rubbish and had to be replaced. Cant comment on performance.

The Ebay SMICs are great value, and have a total volume of nearly double standard and aluminium end tanks, but they are still a fair bit smaller than other versions, and the charge areas is'nt that much larger. They are a definate improvement over stock though and seem to be a decent upgrade on stock turbos.

The Z1 motorsports SMIC is a good price and they are pretty big IC's - They are currently on offer at $595 + $100 UK shipping

that was the other set i was considering. I got my turbos, decats and downpipes from there and was happy with them. And going on that offer, it'll be roughly around £425, which aint too shabby for a good quality upgrade!

with regards to that ebay one... someone did point this out on another thread... and i saved the link... http://www.flat4online.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?pName=front-mount-intercooler-300zx-twin-turbo&cName=nissan-fairlady-300zx

Mikey the link that Jazzy posted there is a company in Glasgow I have delt with before. He is looking for £200 delivered for a FMIC Kit. Cant say quality of parts but some others have bought them on here from the replies on the other thread. I have bought bits n bobs from him and he is ok to deal with. I'd rather buy from the uk rather than hong kong, no offence meant but its better to deal locally rather than from across the other side of the world.

if ya gonna get that FMIC kit make sure you change the filters that you get with it cos they only made of foam and can get wet which will affect your MAF.

cheers for the help guys. I think im gonna look into the Z1motorsports SMIC kit. Heard good stories about them and they are not too badly priced either!

Is it possible to fit a FMIC behind the standard front bumper without too much modification?

It all depends on the front mount used.some will need the oil cooler relocating and some wont.Your ARC induction box would have to go mike i reckon. You may need to cut the bumper bar and some kits require that the fog lights are removed. The seller should be able to tell you.

Hmmmmm....seems like im edging more and more towards the Z1 motorsports sidemounts!

Surely FMIC is an upgrade of sidemounts? Or am I wrong in that department. I would have thought it was better to go the whole hog and fit the FMIC and thats the air side sorted.

Well, apparently the Z1's are pretty good......

Or i could get the Viper bumper off the zcentre and show off a fmic pretty well!

suppose everyone has their own opinions on this. some say that the FMIC stops air getting through to the radiator which can cause overheating problems, which in theory, is a valid point. others say who have them fitted say they have never had cooling problems. thinks is a little 50/50.

Not an upgrade no, just an alternative. In fact many of the aftermarket SMIC's are larger than some of the FMIC's.

There are pro's and con's to both. Many prefer the looks of a FMIC, but they be a restriction to the Rad, fitment issues, have to relocate Oil cooler and there can be more pressure drop.

Whereas SMIC's dont have the looks, but a high quality large set of SMIC's will provide more than enough Cooling for nearly any power setup.

Well am guessing FMIC are more for looks then. I wasnt thinking about the cooling issues with restricted air.
