Hi,

Is the best way of fixing a new fibreglass rear spoiler to bond it, say with Sikaflex?

Thanks

Vijay

Quite simply, yes :)

One more thing, the boot is bare metal at the moment and I assume it's best to etch prime it first before I stick the spoiler on with Sikaflex?

Vijay

I would prime at a minmum, but as Primer is porous I would be tempted to paint it first before fitting spoiler.

Would I get away with using single pack aerosol sprays underneath the spoiler? Etch primer then normal primer then a topcoat?

probably a good compromise.

but remember to use plenty of aerosol topcoat.

Them 400ml tins only have 20ml of real paint in them

:D :D :D

Guys, can I have a step by step on the best way of doing this i.e do I sand between coats and if so what grade? How many coats of each paint would you suggest? And is there a right aerosol paint to use?

The problem I have is my car will be put on a trailer and brought to a paintshop once the last bits (spoiler and headlight panel mainly) are finished hence I need to fit the spoiler before it goes to the paintshop :(

Thanks

or even better, how easy is it to mix up 2 pack paint as there's a compressor there with a spray gun

don't try spraying with 2 pack unless you know what you're doing - lethal stuff!! You need a ventilated mask and proper extraction etc...

can't you just get them to give it a quick spray over the boot, move on to another panel then you can bond it on in between coats??

and I really don't know what I'm doing so maybe give the 2 pack stuff a miss!! lol

Might have to do that but just would have prefered to get it all done before it went in to be sprayed :(

how about going to an accident repair place and asking them to just do the section that will be under the spoiler - doesn't matter how poor the finish is after all... then you can bond the spoiler on and then you/ the body shop that's doing the respray can feather the edges or take it back down to metal?

that's an idea but I'd have to hire a van to get the tailgate to them and pick it up

Yep 2 pack contains Isocyanates!!! .....loosely a chemical brother of cyanide. Dont go there :nono:

If you are stuck as to how to do it all then call me later tonight and I can go thru it in easy steps.

PM me for the number.

Pete :D
