My series 2 (airbag model cruise control is on a stalk) is not working. If I push the button on the right side pod to turn it on, the green light on the clocks to show that the system is active, does turn on... but when I use the stalk to engage it, nothing happens....

Any ideas?

has it worked then stopped or never worked?

not traveling fast enough? (imports have higher minimum speed for cruise iirc)

switch on clutch pedal or brake pedal depressed?

It has never worked in my ownership, but I have had many other zeds with CC and know how it should operate. This has a fault somewhere (but I am guessing not a simple fuse or the light wouldnt come on).

I just need some guidence on where to check on a S2.

you need to be travelling at about 40 -45mph before it engages

As per my previous post, I know that :p

so assuming I am travelling OVER 45mph, I turn on the cruise control, light comes on, I move the stalk to set my speed and nothing happens, what can I check next and how do I check it?

Hi

I've got the same problem on my 92 jap auto. I've had the brake and dash switches and all the wiring checked out they were apparently all working ok. Plus there was a signal being delivered from the speedo. I also tried a replacement cruise actuator the motor runs and the vacuum tub holds vacuum when it is supplied separately and this moves the throttle cable. The motor assembly has o-ring seals which could well be dodgy it might just not be vacuum tight. The diagnostics on the cruise ECU check out ok apart from one reading at 10 v instead of 12v which my local friendly electrician is not sure how big a deal this is. Inside the cruise actuator motor assembly there are 1 or 2 solenoids which I think dictate whether vacuum is supplied or not or where its directed. So the next thing is to check these solenoids out and see if they are working, and/or to find a replacement cruise ECU. Be careful because there are at least 2 types of ECU with different pin configurations. It's turning into a saga........

Does your horn work, Its on the same circuit.

I had this and it was a broken wire near the fuse box under the bonnet: an electrical guru found it and spliced in new wire. Or could just be a fuse?

Yes they are on the same circuit; if the horn does not work then it could be just a simple electrical fault/fuse. if it does then it will be something else?

My horn does work - but at some point my car has had an aftermarket steering wheel on it, which has been taken of (before i bought it) however, the horn has been moved to a button ontop of the cowling, and the slip ring had been removed from behind the steering wheel which removed the auto cancel from the indicators and also ment the cruise buttons couldnt be plugged in. So i returned the slip ring to its proper home and fixed the auto cancel.

But the cruise still doesnt engage, now there is a yellow wire thats been moved to the button on top of the steering wheel....

Any thoughts!

Toe under the clutch pedal to make sure the pedal is not slightly depressed or sagging- that's the problem with my other car's cruise control. Also do the same with the brake pedal.
