These can be a real sod to fix, I've tried a couple without 100% success. Problem is that the motherboard needs to be removed and usually a replacement power socket needs to be installed, getting the old one off is a bugger, not to mention putting 1.1 million bits of laptop back in the right order. To be honest £120 for a guaranteed fix is not as bad as it sounds !

whats the model number tony ?. will be able to sort this for you a lot cheaper than that if i can source the connector. ;)

It seems to be a comon problem with the HP laptops over 2years old and having had two different models repaired I asure you they will fail again and again within months. Time for a new laptop really. Get it repaired as a backup and to get your data transfered, but don't depend on it.

It originaly cost me £1200 and has never let me down, suppose its just wear and tear as it was being used a hell of a lot last 3-4 years.

I personally wouldn't take on the risk of fixing this for someone else. If it were my own then it doesn't matter. I learnt this the hard way. That's why they are charging £120.

That part number looks like a Pc world one!

please tell me you havnt got that quote from them, the tech gays?!

power pin will either be on the motherboard or on a riser board from it

sometime they can be soldered back on, but normally its a new board

and for that £120 is cheap!

if you are ringing the tech gays tho thats what they charge just to look at it, parts will be addad on later and they mark them up 150% !

 No not PC World, got the quote from a local small indi pc seller/repairer, i did look at a place in Micro Mart, they been in there for years so should know there stuff, there price was £120.Thing is if some one knows what there doin and have done it before then i dont mind them doing it,tho if it goes again soon after then maybe i get some kind of support/back up from say the place in Micro Mart, but its like everything else, who knows,i remember trying to get some place to do my daughters ipod battery, wanted a fortune,so thought give it a go,was a bit risky, especialy when it was in bits but turned out ok,but a lap top pin is way above me to be honest :D

i suppose its all down to how confident you are in your own work. ive done quite a lot of these repairs over the years for numerous people in the UK and IRELAND so its not a problem for me. the main drawback is getting hold of the correct power socket.

True, I'll do most electrical things, but laptops are a PITA

Hey, don't knock it. Nothing sucks like and Electrolux ! :D

PMSL. And I imagine a laptop WOULD be a pain in the arse if you were into that kind of thing

My daughter knocked my laptop over last year, the way it fell it must have damaged the power supply pin, i just phoned the home insurance, they sent a courier to pick it up to be repaired, the repair company said it was fecked so i got a new laptop through the insurance and i asked them for the hard drive from my old one and they sent the full pc back.

Does anyone have any HI-RES photos/scans of the HP Pavilion ZV5000 mobo?

I just got my hands on one with the power plug fault and i see it has been 'repaired' already :mac1:

I need trace the tracks on the mobo to see if i can solder an auxilary wire somewhere.
