everything on the front suspension is under two years old.

these tention rods were part of a fully adjustable setup including upper arms, transverse links and coil overs.

the car is driven hard but, never to its limits unless tracking it.

the torque settings are checked at regular intervals with no signs of anything loosening or cracking.

cheers Mark

humm the powertrix ones supposed to be the dog's !! i have them also.

i would have said they were cheap copies!

cheap rods!

Mine are still 100% spot on and there is a genuine 586 horses at the back end. I think they cost me £230 5 years ago.

how hard is your suspension and how much is it lowered?

its on the medium setting around ten clicks out of twenty odd if my memory serves me correctly.

its pretty low, the coils sit on the lowest setting

Well 1st off you are the very 1st person ever i have came across that has suffered a problem, in about 6 years! so thankfully not too much of a scare for potential new customers.

Secondly, that is exactly what can happen to stock rods if just upper arms are fitted on their own or incorrect adjustment of the uppers, so that would also apply in the latter case, if fited new rods.

Thirdly, i recall you contacting me early last September when your parts were just coming upto 2 years old then and you told me that there was play in the upper arms and you wanted them replaced ( which i was happy to do)

I copied you the email from charles park at powertrix, see below

As for the front camber arms, I have had only one set start to unscrew before, as the arm is made up of 3 different components that screw together. That is most likely the excess play in the arm. We removed the arms and unscrewed that portion of the arm that was starting to loosen and coated it with Lock-Tite or thread seal and reinstalled them on the car and have not had any issues since. This is why around 2 years ago we stated to include picture instructions showing to do this before being installed, once done it is pretty impossible for a part to loosen.

This is not something unique to Powertrix arms it can happen to any brand.

Let us know if we can be of any further assistance with this. "

Now if your uppers had play, they had incorrect settings and this is what causes strain on the lowers (rods) hence why we state new rods should always be fitted with upper arms ( you adjust the top in/out like a pivot, it cause strain on the lower which is fixed) so though your rods were new, you suffered the same symtoms as having stock ones on due to the uppers either having play and not rectified or out of adjustment. One final note though with respect to uppers, they MUST be fitted the correct way, place a pair on a table and tell me which way they go, 99% of the peeps on here couldn't do that, hence why only powertrix and SPL that i know off, show how to do this, which i know some have got wrong.

Hope this explains a bit more to anyone thinking of purchasing powertrix or currently using them ;)

Oh glad to see the Teins have improved the launch and braking, rods are for adjusting caster and so can provide better sterring responce and suspension deflection.

cheers

smithy

i would be looking elsewhere mate first. maybe somethings loose and causing a lot of stress on teh arms.

ahh smithy got there 1st.

  • 2 months later...

hay silverbullet, what are you doing with those old adjustable torsion bars?

Those rose joints may come in handy for me, the upper rear arms of mine have really small crappy joints was wondering if these might fit..

have they got much play in them?

or are you still using them?

  • 1 year later...

I have just fitted powertrix to mine, and i cant see how yours ended up like that mate, these aint going to bend in a hurry ! very pleased with mine.

Just for your infomationdez the powertrix arms have changed since you fitted yours mark, They probably realised the fault and improved the design.....

Mine are powertrix and different to these in the pics.

They have lengthened the rod which is attached to the joint and shortened the rod that is bolted to the lower arm, im no expert but i can see how this would improve the strength, the old design does look flawed and easy to bend. So by shortening the skinny part of the arm and lengthening the thicker part it should have less chance of bending?

ps. this is the rear strut brace i was talking to you about at south mimms.....

Bet they are not as shiny as the pics now hey ;)

Yeah clearly u can see the design has changed, the old arms were too skinny nere the centre of the arm where all the stress is just at the centre of the thread where its connected to eachother.

LOL you aint kiddin mate - feckin filthy

Yep agreed much better, stronger design now! :D

Nope, that is actually based on a Carbing/Okuyama rear strut brace. Had one on my car - superb piece of kit but quite pricey! The Powertrix one will be slightly different - an improvement over the Carbing design.

Ah yes i thought powertix were the carbing, so two types then and really the only option that will make a difference, I have to swap my cheap ass strut for one of these in the future.
