Hi People,

Got 2 Problems With My 1991 Z32 Manual Tt Jap Import, Just Wondered If Any Pro's Of The Zed Can Offer Some Advise For Me.............

Got Loads Of Aftermarket Items On Her, Too Much To List......

1) She Is Not Firing On Cylinder 1 ( As You Look At The Engine, First On Left), Got New Plugs, New Coil Connectors, New Injectors. Car Is Running Rough, If I Pull The Coil Connector Of Number 1, No Change In Engine Sound.

2) When The Engine Starts To Warm Up I Am Geting Smoke Form The Engine Bay From The Left Side Of The Battery, If You Are Looking At The Engine Bay. I Think It Is Oil Smoke, But Cannot Be Sure.

Any Help Is Most Appreciated.

Cheers.....

Alan.

Check the connectors to the PTU then if ok try a known good one. Failing that do a compression test

smoke. oild dripping onto exhaust. can be via rocker covers or the oil feed to the turbo.

spark problem. have you tried a good known working ptu?

I THOUGHT THAT YOU GET STARTING PROBLEMS IF THE PTU BECOMES FAULTY?

WHEN STARTING FROM WARM?

stop SHOUTING LOL. a ptu can fail on one cylinder only too. its basically an electronic switch which controls spark to each coil pack.

have you taken the plug out of that cylinder and put it back in the coil pack to see if a spark is evident?

Not necessarily, they can fail completely or on just one cylinder

if the ptu has failed, do you think it is worth getting a series II ptu, or stick a series I?

Defo sounds like the ptu mate, try and get hold of a 2nd hand working one, or post up if someone local has a spare just to test yours. Mine had exactly same problem, got hold a spare and it worked a treat, also check the connections to the coil packs and injectors. I got a small set of files for £3. best money ive spent in ages, clean all the contacts so they have no green gunk on.

Check this link for a Series 2 ptu.

have you checked the coil pack , try swapping it with a known good one , swap it with number 2 coilpack , if it works and number 2 stops working then you need a new coilpack , the smoke if its oil smoke could be one of a load of things , could be rocker cover gasket , half moon seal at rear , pvc valve hose , turbo oil feed pipe , the list is endless
