Have you got the new wireing harness aswell, I fitted mine today and the new harness just plugs straight into the old connectors, it only took about 15 mins to finish.

no didnt get harness , its a second hand ptu with just the plugs and a short lenght of wire on

You will defo require the harness as the connector on it is smaller than on the original.

You can wire it direct to the old harness which is what i did to my TT as it is a lot neater. You have you find out which is the in side (so it works obviously) (My Blue car is in storage due to me getting divorced so i can't go check and put picks up, but I'm sure someone will soon enough) and then strip back the plugs on the car harness and then just remove one wire at a time and solder to the wire from the corresponding pin on the new series 2 PTU plug.

With what mods would you require a PTU upgrade?

And which model ptu is it?

No Mods - it's just an upgrade as the original PTU were prone to failure... as in they WILL fail at some point.

Yup so if you find that for some strange reason your car stalls and doens't start again until it's cooled down, you may as well buy yourself a series II PTU.

As the solder joints get hot in the series I, the connections lift off the surface causing a break in the connection to one or more of the coil packs.

how about i relocate it to a cooler place now while i still can?

the damage has probably been done already! It is possible to repair them - there's a how-to somewhere on opening it up and re-soldering... I used one like that for a couple of years, no problem.
