HELP! GARAGES! ADVICE! MEMBERS! STAGE 1 of project ZeeD is about to begin!

Dear fellow 300ZX lovers,

I need work done on the zed! I need advice as to where and when to have it all carried out. I need estimates of know how long it will take and how much it will cost. All advice is much appreciated. I would like to hand the car over for X days and get it back with everything on here done. in one go. No timewasting

I need to find suppliers who have the following asap so they can be fitted with the rest;1. Rear side reflectors in white or smoke (Mmmmm…)

2. Same momo handbrake handle as steve-300zx

3. New windscreen wipers all round!

4. Right-side pod but only in perfect condition!

5. Rearview mirror but only in perfect condition!

6. there’s a black round plastic screw cover missing from driver side interior handle hole

7. the passenger seat interior handle plastic looks faded. Need new in black

I have these items, but they need fitting;8. I have the black rear Perspex no-light bit from zcentre

9. I have bought clear side indicators from ebay

10. Navan auto gear stick

11. Speedo MPH backplate from ebay

12. Speedo aluminium stick on backplate a la jay

13. Aluminium look centre panel that houses radio and vents a la jay

14. The boot cover I have is split at the bar on the end – needs sowing up on the back

I have nearly acquired the following and they might need to be fitted;

15. black 2+2 leather electric seats – shame how missed cream leather from andy. Pics up please autoexpress! Lucky b’stad…

16. UK spec rear alloys for the 245 tyres

Other bits that need sorting;

17. Re-affix front drivers trim near windscreen so it stops rattling (after botched alarm install – twat!)

18. Re-affix passenger side rattle coming plastic vertical line window trim to stop rattle

19. Installation of a Toad alarm and immobiliser with full window closure (have a number for a fellow who does it from a forum member – think he can come over to the garage where all the other work will be carried out BEFORE the trim is re-affixed to make sure there will be no rattle! Is this reasonable?)

20. Had an oil change 1000 miles ago, brake pads done on front, new tyres all round and general service, but not from a zed specialist. Just my local garage. Car drives fantastic, bit of squeaking from the brakes more recently. Should I get a full zed specialist service done yet?

21. General service – had a jap sticker on the engine saying cambelt and pump was done – now clock shows 59000miles – don’t know if it’s real, but if it isn’t the car is in very very good condition – should I get another cambelt change just in case? How much? Is it worth it? Can anything go wrong – my approach has been if ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Does this hold for the zed in your opinion?

22. Need to have auto gearbox oil checked and replaced if found to be necessary – feels fine to me – my friend says it might need it – my local garage says it certainly doesn’t

23. Check for any petrol/oil leaks as I have gotten the bad petrol smell several times this winter on a cold start – want this car in A1 condition – she deserves it!

Optional things I am still considering if I want done during stage 1;

24. MOT would be nice after all the work is carried out as tax disc runs out end of march

25. Tinted windows – dark, but not pitch black in the rear and slight tint on the fronts – does this make sense to do now if you if I will get the car repainted in some months time? Should I do it then?

26. Get the new uk alloys (point 17) powdered in dolphin grey metallic. Yummie

I have been very careful with this car – saw quite a few before I bought it, rac reports, the works – and it was worth it – now that I’ve had it for a few months, the V5 has arrived and I’ve done 1000 miles in it I know it’s a cracker… so I’m ready to invest in its health. I know it’s all good now and want this service to bring it up to scratch – slight makeover and a few gym sessions sort of thing… help me make this car into something that will do the forum proud.

P.S. FunkSi – this is the time I need you most – you logical dissection services are in great demand. Help me, Help ZED!

P.P.S. Don’t get an nsx get a Griffith! Or a Chim!

P.P.P.S. I’ve been recommended ztech as good, but read some strange stories on here. Chris – can you do it all? Also please note I am ready to travel far and wide to get the best work carried out. Needless to say cost and time are factors…

P.P.P.P.S. thanks to all who have supplied me with bits so far – you know who you are – and especially for all the great advice I’ve gotten from forum/300zx veterans. This experience would not have been so great without you all sharing your vast experience. Cheers ALL!

That list beggers beleaf.Sorry to hear you have no arms and legs and dont seem to have the ability to do your own parts shopping because of your condition.Dont think your lookin for a Zed Specialist Fellar a nanny would be more fitting.Sorry for being so blunt but 99% of those jobs are, I'm sure,well within your limited capabilitys.Give um a go you might surprise yourself.

thanks for the advice - but I'm really not mechanically able. everytime i've tried something it went wrong and i would just get a garage to do it again to it. plus i don't really have the time plus i want the car to be in perfect condition and when i was looking to buy my zed i saw so many cars that had amateurish work done on them that ended up looking poor... i want my zed to look like it's brand new by the time i'm finished with it - after all this has been done the next things will be;

1. interior leather - sure i could fit it myself - but look at steve300zx's car - it's a world of difference - especially those stick on panels - that's what i want - not the bubbled up version...

2. respray - stuck between a black (maybe the new beemer black) or the old 1992-1994 dark blue mettalic blue they can on the 3series of the time...

3. hids/leds possibly - don't really know if i want them

4. maybe some flashier exhausts...

please bear in mind - i'm only a half owner of my car and my co-owner friend wouldn't allow me to do a half-arsed job... my car was bought in order to make it into one of the best looking and mechanically sound 300zxs around. it's courses for horses and we want this car looking pristine. and as we are splitting the bills 50/50 it's worth it to get it all done by a professional. Honestly now - do you know anyone who could fit leather for it to look as good steve300zx's? i don't - and i know that when ever i touch a car it turns out looking like a disaster... i'm a driver not a modder/mechanic/professional bodyworker...

also can anyone tell me if these from ebay.com will fit my 94 jdm?

90-96 NISSAN 300ZX Z32 SMOKE BUMPER SIDEMARKER LIGHTS

the thing is they have lights in them and i dont know if my car has the space for them... anyone got these? anyone know where i can get these in clear or smoke without the lights? just reflectors sort of thing...

thanks

Can do all of the above bar 1-7, 14, 25 and 26. Will work some details out for you :)

pm me with the details pls

Let's see.........

But first, you're asking a lot of one person, and it simply isn't going to happen!

I need to find suppliers who have the following asap so they can be fitted with the rest;

1. Rear side reflectors in white or smoke (Mmmmm…) - Not sure, maybe DTA could help

2. Same momo handbrake handle as steve-300zx - Ask Steve where he got his from! ;)

3. New windscreen wipers all round! Z Centre or MJP, genuine Nissan

4. Right-side pod but only in perfect condition! Ask AndyZ @ Supercarparts.co.uk

5. Rearview mirror but only in perfect condition! AndyZ again

6. there’s a black round plastic screw cover missing from driver side interior handle hole No there isn't, it should be a piece of carpet in there!

7. the passenger seat interior handle plastic looks faded. Need new in black New, MJP, or used AndyZ

I have these items, but they need fitting;

8. I have the black rear Perspex no-light bit from zcentre -Piece of cake, depending what you already have on the boot lid! Some info you may find helpful here >> http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=40209&highlight=perspex

9. I have bought clear side indicators from ebay - Two minute job for both sides!

10. Navan auto gear stick - Fitted one myself, took just 30 mins, including trim removal

11. Speedo MPH backplate from ebay - Dependent on centre hole diameter, it'll either slide over the needle, or will require the needles removal (not the best idea if you don't know what you're doing) An hours job tops

12. Speedo aluminium stick on backplate a la jay - Part of above

13. Aluminium look centre panel that houses radio and vents a la jay - Piece of cake, 5 mins

14. The boot cover I have is split at the bar on the end – needs sowing up on the back - Probably a local machinist, Yellow Pages

I have nearly acquired the following and they might need to be fitted;

15. black 2+2 leather electric seats… - An hours job, dependent on whether the passenger side one is electric also

16. UK spec rear alloys for the 245 tyres - :confused: It's only five nuts per wheel, what's the problem?

Other bits that need sorting;

17. Re-affix front drivers trim near windscreen so it stops rattling - This guide may be of use to you >> http://s95014253.onlinehome.us/63104/13701.html If not, then new ones are available from Z Centre

18. Re-affix passenger side rattle coming plastic vertical line window trim to stop rattle - As Above

19. Installation of a Toad alarm and immobiliser with full window closure (have a number for a fellow who does it from a forum member – think he can come over to the garage where all the other work will be carried out BEFORE the trim is re-affixed to make sure there will be no rattle! whether your a brother or whether you're a mother mine is going to be done by summer 2009 for sure... you can feel the city breakin' and everybody shaking, but if all goes well i might even finish it by this summer... well, you can tell that after all this has been done all i really want is a re-spray and an interior like steve300zx's and that's it - after that i just want to maintain... i want to keep it staying aliiiii-iiiii-iiiive

Just out of interest bornrebel, what area are you in ?.

It's always useful to put that in your profile as some you may have some people very close to you that will be more than willing to lend a hand if you fancy doing some stuff yourself. There's nothing more reassuring that doing the job yourself, but sometimes confidence and inexperience requires someone else who knows what they are doing to be there. It's also a good way to get to know the other members of the forum.

I know I've worked with many people on here whether it's on my car or their car, I have done all the work on my car myself apart from the body work and the most recent engine build, If I did it alone I wouldn;t have a clue, but we all learn from each other and in the end you end up knowing a great deal about 300zx's and are able to help others in return for the knowledge you have gained through them.

i'm in london, but i want most of this done by a pro so i know that it will be done well and i know i can go back them if stops working, etc. i tried to do the easiest bit (the indicators), but they've got different connectors and thought if i can't do this - i am certainly not gonna anything else. again, it's just not my thing - i'm a great believer in letting professionals do what they do *professionally*... not a blue peter kinda guy... diy? hah - can hardly hold a fork up without dropping it... :wack:

I have to say you've no chance of getting all that done by one person, on time and at anything like a reasonable cost.

If you do find someone, you'll be looking at a MASSIVE bill! LOL

It's taken me 7 years of pain to get mine anywhere near sorted.

Good luck! ;)

Chris.
