Interesting program on BBC3. Funny how people are prepared to eat meat as long as they don't see it being killed. IMO if you're going to eat it then you should understand the full process including the slaughter.

couldnt agree more, kill it -yes, eat it -yes, as for cooking it, i cant even cook pizza without burning it but if somebody cooked id eat it!

I don't think that it is necessary to have to see an animal being killed. The hunter gatherer thing has been illiminated now and food is all proccessed for us. I would imagine that if it were exposed more then more and more people would become vegeterians? That being the case Jeremy Clarkson wouldn't have enough time left over to do Top Gear. :D

I have heard so many people say they would have no problems killing an animal then eat it. Load of shite. When it came down to it most wouldn't have the balls to kill an animal then eat it. I cetainly wouldn't want to and I am very grateful that in this day and age I dont have to.

Thank god for TESCO's.

I've killed a chicken, plucked, gutted and cooked it. Can't stand doing it and nearly made me hurl. I hate eating off the bone, fat, skin. Prime cuts only. I love meat, but don't like to see where it came from. I just look at it as a food-stuffs.

I eat all the ducks, rabbits but not the Pheasants I shoot. I just don't like the taste of wild Pheasant whent its hung and if you don't hang it it is too tough.

At least you know how fresh your meat is.

I've had a few tasty wood pidgeons out of the garden recently but shooting a bird or rabbit is a bit different to working in an abatoir.

No way could I do that for a living.

I've had to work on the computers at an abatoir and I always got out of there as quick as I could.

The noises the animals make are just awful and they obviously know what's about to happen.

It didn't help that there was CCTV inside the plant for me to watch while I fixed their PC's.

Not nice but someone has to do it.

I saw the Kill It, Cook It, Eat It about pigs the other night and that was a bit too much.

They showed piglets in Italy (I think) being slaughtered at 2 or 3 weeks old and just chucked in a big bin. The way they were treated was terrible

mmmmmmmmmmmmm. Meat.

I agree with not killing it yourself. I just think if people are going to eat meat then they should see and understand the full process - it might even make people less wastefull with their food....

I take it you haven't been watching the big food fight thing on Channel 4 then?

mmmmmmmmmmmmm. Meat.

No not that meat you gaylord

Yes I agree. Also wood pidgeons are tasty

Was that because they had been reading Mac1's posts and kept telling you to get on you knees and squeal like a pig :slap:

I've got a customer that raises and produces chicken on an industrial scale and it a very grim business. Ever since I've done the full factory tour I will not eat chicken unless it is local freerange reared. 98% of all chicken eaten in the UK is only 46days old when killed. is fed on a feed filled with steroids and antibiotics. The Birds are reared in infared light so that the meat stays white. Not nice. I'd rather kill a freeranger and prepare myself. + it tastes so much better.

OH yes and chicken nugets and Kievs :hurl: You just cannot believe what they are made from.

Quite appropriate that this was on last night, i have just read Clarksons book where he discusses the same thing, his words of wisdom on the matter being:

" out there in the real world away from the twenty first century supermarket/ freezer/ microwave chain of catering, ythere are insects which eat their partners after sex, there are turkey vultures which will vomit on you when threatened, there are cats that kill for fun and there are leapord seals that play aquatic tennis , using penguins as the ball.

So in the grand scheme of things, shooting a pheasant in the face or attching a Friesian to the National Grid really isnt all that bad.

Of course, if you don't want to be a party to the killing or the exploitation that is fine, become a vegetarian. But if you are going to eat meat , don't stand on tiptoe and shriek when you find out how the cow became a Mc Meal"

Good old Jezza, never holds back.

I hate to think that just for our benefit animals are kept in such cruel, horrible conditions. Its part of the food chain/ lifecycle to kill for food, however inflicting inhumane conditions on innocent animals is not So dont even get me started on Foie Gras!

It isn't just the inhumane conditions that chicken among others are reared. It is the hormones and drugs they are fed so they grow large and plump years before they should reach that stage.

If the chicken have eaten it anf then we eat them we've eaten it which might have something to do with the large number of fat bast***ds everywhere. + they feed cows hormones and antibiotics to produce more milk and milk that will not be condemed for infection. Beef cattle are fed the same steroid based feeds to become large and weigh more before market and it's the same for pigs and even sheep winter feeds and feed suppliment while they nurcher their lambs.

I thought the "fat *******s" were about because they can not resist the lure of the cake aisle!

off topic, but......

Its all junk food and no home cooking, im the same, with all the shit readily available people have forgotten about home cooking because they have a choice these days.

The powers that be have banned adverts for fast food during childrens TV programmes, now maybe im being daft but its not the adverts that make the children fat, its the bloody parents that buy them such food because their little darling stamp their feet for it!

Yes Andy I did and it has made us at home think again m,ate. We will only buy free range chickens and egggs from now on so it has worked for us. TBH it was a joke as I bloody hate TESCO's. but needs must and they are only across the road from where I live so its very handy.

I HATE Tesco with a passion! They've closed down all the proper local butchers/greengrocers and sell far inferior produce. Time to fight back but how I'm not so sure  Sick of buying veg and having to throw it out the next day because its already gone rotten

Well we keep getting told that, but people have always eaten loads of cakes and stuff and loads of salt.

My parents generation born in the early 1920's were the slimest and fittest there has ever been. They all eat loads of cream cakes, clotted cream tea's. Jam and bread, drank gallons of Tea with 2 or more sugers, have fry up breakfasts, fish'n'chips smothered in salt and vinigar, had bread and dripping, cooked everything in lard infact did everything they say we shouldn't do.

So how come they have lived longer than any other generation before them or since.

The real big changes to food is farming chemicals, groth hormones and antibiotics being added to livestock. Also they walked everywhere and did more physical jobs.

not seen the program, but it's not that bad the way things are killed for supermarkets. No cruelty happens as if it did the sluaghterhouse would lose a massive contract which is big money.

I mean we killed 5600 lambs today and i love meat never think about it really
