Which tyres to get?

I am in need or rear tyres, standard size, 245/45/16.

MAC has given me a number for FBGoodridge (Or is it goodriche?) tyres.

I cant afford to spend £300 on them like last time so hear are the laternatives.

Dont know which model they will be, but they will be the sports ones that make.

The prices are for 2 and include fitting.

Fulder @ £201

Fulka @ £177

Rikie (Or something like that) £144

Bridgestone S03's £287 (Too much)

Toyo Proxies £180 (Not including fitting, from mytyres.net)

Which ones would you recomend?

I would like to try MACs contact but it just keeps ringing, and complications with time doesnt help.

Stuart,

Here's the cheapest branded tyre I could find, Kumho Ecsta 712:

Available from: www.xpediatyre.co.uk/tyres45s.html £60.81 each!

Can reccomend them, had 2 tyres delivered overnight.

Oooooooo. Nice!!!

They are the favourates at the moment!!!!

Go for the Toyos, come up one of the best in a recent EVO tyre test. Its what the JAPS use.

Leigh

I agree with Leigh, Toyo's aren't the cheapest but what a difference they made to mine over the Pirellis.

For what it's worth, putting "cheap" tyres on your Z will just be an abomination. The tyres make an incredible amount of difference, maybe money is tight but once you have driven your car with a quality set of tyres you'll never want to skimp on your rubber.

Also, when comparing price you should look at the real cost; That is the cost per mile. I had a set of pirellis that only lasted 4,000 miles, yet my Eagle F1's lasted over 16,000. Michelins lasted 10,000 - 12,000 miles. So although the price may be cheap look at what the real cost is. Overall the Eagle F1's were the highest purchase price but actually work out as one of the lowest cost because they last so long.

If you don't have the wonga full stop, then that's another story. If it's cost you're focusing on it's worth trying the Eagle F1's, not only are the the best tyre I've used on my Z, they're the best looking also.

Its not the case of getting the cheapest tyres. I have S02's on at the moment which cost me £150 each! and lasted 10,000ish. I refuse to pay that much again when there are other tyres manufatures who make performance tyre although, may not be as good as S02's but are up there with them.

I had Kuhmo tyres on rears when I got the car and they where dangerous, but only cost £60 each.

how on earth do u guys get your tyres to last so long my f1 tyres lasted 3,000 miles am i doing something wrong??? i do like to floor it now and againg but i dont do wheelspinns!

You should be able to get S-02's for about £110 - £115 (maybe less) from Micheldever.

go for toyos definatly less road noise than the bridges but they do break loose when flooring the pedal. just had toyos fitted to me new 19" anteras.

I've got Uniroyal Rainsports on mine which are absolutely brilliant.

In the wet I can floor 2nd gear flat (in a straight line!), and it doesn't spin out at all.

Pretty cheap too.

a set of two runners from pemberton tyres in skem ures for £50 balanced and fitted..........a tyre is a tyre at the end of the day and as much as you get the purists on here going on about better grip etc etc to lose control of ure car down to tyre grip you would have to be driving like a complete twat and damage ure car anyway

I found Toyos to be NASTY. Really ruined the handling on my 2T. They lasted SO long though.

When I fitted Bridgestone S03s all round, the car totally changed. It finally handled as it should do, so the extra money was WELL worth it.

Cheap source of tyres - try Bracknell Tyre and Battery Centre (01344 411323). Not only are they cheap, but they're good lads. Also, almost any tyre will be there for you the next morning if you call the day before.

I got 2 front 215/40/17s and 2 rear 235/40/17s for £451.20 all in recently.

BTW, S03s are as good as S02s (better in the wet) but last longer, so are worth the extra money...

Just my 2p worth

Agreed - these (on 18's) - 'nuff said:

Senna - you're showing that rubber sex picture again, aren't you?

Dino - wotcher m8y again - are you another refugee from Bracknell or just passin' thru to get tyres?

Yours Gio the Town Planner ("I thought Bracknell was a complete sh*thole until I discovered Aldershot")

I went from Fuldas to Bridgestone S02s, now running on S03s.

If you save money now to buy the cheap Fuldas they will run out quick and be poor value for money in the long run. Also the grip is "crap" and wet weather driving Crap.

Try to get a better type. I would never consider changing from S03s, S02s.... even when I was short of cash.

I've had a few other makes too over 8 years on the 300! Also, I'll tell you something else, I took my S02s of the rear and found very even wear across the tyre, the fuldas always wore the inside much more quick to make you change them more soon.

Good luck

Jez.

I got my 285/35/18 Fulda Extremo's from micheldever for £120 each so your standard ones will be way cheaper.

I think the front 235/40/18's were about £90 each.

I heard that a rule of thumb is that the softer tyres are generally more grippy but wear out quicker, and that hard tyres last ages but don't grip as well.

Also heard that TOYO's are very grippy and reasonably priced. Got them on the back of my 200SX and never had them skid yet. Friend has them on his ~350 BHP/Tonne Tiger kit car (& I think on his WRX Scooby), and he's had no complaints.

"I heard that a rule of thumb is that the softer tyres are generally more grippy but wear out quicker"...

So did I and it made sence to me... I was told that S02s are more soft like Falkons, and therefore had better grip. However, it does not relate to how quickly they wear out or how well they grip, it's all down to the compound.

I've just got 10,000 miles out of my rear S03's (only a standard auto though). £94 each from Micheldever (Jap spec size) inc fitting, balancing and VAT. I'm getting another pair this weekend probably
