Coolant leaking from ???

I have a problem with coolant leaking for the last few days, getting gradually worse. Today it decided to pour out, I managed to get the car up and look underneath.

I managed to take a photo of where it was leaking from:-

This is a view from the underside of the car, sorry if its not to clear.

I dont think its the thermostat leaking as I have checked around the housing.

Any ideas would be most appreciated.

Thanks

That wont be where its leaking from, thats just where its dropping onto. The only 2 places it can leak above there is the Waterpump or the two MetalRubber inlet hoses that go underneath the cam covers.

Yep sounds like water pump

Thats good, well not good but better that something much worse!!

Is there a guide to removing water pump??

I have got fan cover off, and cant see how to get fan off / belts etc.

I have both the pump and thermostat and belt. Is it worth replacing all in one go?

Any guides would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Yes, replace Cambelt, waterpump and themostat at same time. You will also need to replaced Rubber pipes (available from Nissan, MJP, SWZ..etc) for the Water inlet hoses as they should not be reused.

- undo the 4 10mm bolts that hold fan to waterpump.

- Each Pump has an adjuster which you can adjust to get pumps of (or just cut belts for now as you will want to replace them ideally anyway)

- The cam covers require 6mm(?) Allen key

- The metal water pipes require 6mm Allen key, a 12mm socket and long reach pliers to undo the metal clips

- You will need a Pulley Remover to get the Crank pulley off (dont lose the little half moon chuck/key that comes off with it)

There is probably a guide here somewhere....

check the 2 short hoses above the water pump first. They go every 2 or 3 years! The water then pisses down the water pump and any garage you go to will tell you it is the water pump when it isnt.

OK Will do, cheers!!

Is it safe to drive very short distances, couple of miles maybe, if I keep coolant up as full as possible while I get it fixed??

Thanks

It can be as long as water level is high enough to keep the heads cooled. You can also slacken the radiator cap temporarily to avoid it pressurising and pushing water out the leak but this can only be a short term measure and not for any distance or speed. Also if you keep adding fresh water to your system you will encourage corrosion inside.

If it is one of the two head feed hoses above the water pump you can see it with a make up mirror and small torch held strategically.

These hoses can even be changed with the radiator fan in place if you are careful.
