fog lights/hazard

When i first bought my z the fog lights never worked from day one, when i press the fog button the front side lights turn on and rear lights but no fog lights, the front fogs seem to be unplugged and there is no sign of any connectors the rear fog... well there isnt one. Cant pass my mot like this which means no driving the z.

my hazard button also does not work i bought a new switch but also no luck, when the hazard light switch is pressed the side indicators wont work anyone know what it could be?

where else should i check?

What is strange is that my car has had a past mot which means the fogs must have been working at some stage but i have no clue what they have done. was imported last year.

Right Jim, lets break this down a bit........

Rear fog... JSpec cars don't come standard with a rear fog lamp/s. For conversion options see here >> http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=42161

Front fogs... JSpec cars DO come with these standard. It's (as you probably realise) the bumper mounted lamp assembly, which houses the side and fog bulbs... Side = 501 fitting, Fog = H3 fitting but with a bullet (Jap type) connector instead of a spade (UK type), and this is possible why yours arn't working, I'll explain...

The connector on the rear of the lamp unit has three pins, one Side +ve, one fog +ve and a dual purpose -ve, so you wiring should be there. You'll then see if there are two lamps fitted (501 & H3) if they are check to see if the H3 works (Continuity with a multimeter, or other test apparatus/device), if not then thats your problem, but when you buy a UK spade type H3 (available anywhere) you'll have to cut the female bullet off the loom side and fit a spade type, then you won't have problems in the future.

If the H3 does work then check to see if you're getting power to the connector, and chase back from there. (sorry I don't know of a wiring diagram for the JSpec cars)

I would guess at that both bulbs have gone, and the previous owner/importer hasn't bothered to change them!

As for the Hazard circuit, it could be a few things, but it's a case of checking through the circuit, which is here >> http://www.300zx.co.uk/cgi-bin/manual.cgi?list=el&dir=&config=&refresh=&direction=forward&scale=0&cycle=off&slide=59&design=default&total=133

Best of luck with both problems, regards,

Dave
