WHATS ya rear wheel horsepower!!!!!!!!

hi everyone,

just been lookin through the past posts and couldn't find any info on what sort of specs you crazy people tune your car to,

i.e rwhp(or claimed hp)OR ENGINE HP,(cheers b19rks)

mines about ready for a rebuild(94000miles)

not wanting to goto big turbo(as my girlfriend drives the car aswell,,,,she don't like lag!!)

my thoughts on mods are,

air filter,

already got scorpion exhaust,

ported heads,

underdrive pulleys,

fuel controller to allow use of 2 or 4 more injectors for extra fueling needs,

raise compresion(using water injection to control detenation)to eliminate any lag,

don't want BOVs (recirc's alot better),

does this lot sound like it will get me to around a nice 400hp,with truck loads of torque????????????

Erm... Big fat zero rwhp biggrin.gif

CheerZ,

Andy

This here printout says max 258 BHP at 6416 RPM. (stock TT manual).

Since the stock engine is supposed to have 280 BHP, I am guessing that 258 is at the rear wheels.

Are you planning to run stock boost?

In that case you are looking at about 310-330 at the crank (280-300 at the weels)

If you are planning to run higher boost then you need an aftermarket chip/ECU. In this case you can run at about 14.5/15 PSI. This will get you up to 400Hp at the crank.

---------------------------------

Mine is an Auto TT and with my mods (Stage III) I am at about 350-370 Hp at the crank.

I'd have thought you could get close to 400bhp with electronics/induction/exhaust etc and then all the serious mechanical stuff is to stop it blowing up!

Has anyone out there played with small shots of Nitrous to overcome turbo lag ??? ?

I remember a tuner trying to persuade me it was a good idea but I did't believe him.

You were right not to believe him. Nitrous isn't really good for any car, but if misused on a T.T it will have disastrous results.

Neil, a decent list is:

Induction Kit (+15bhp)

Chip with either boost jets or boost controller (2nd is Preferable) (+50bhp)

Exhaust, which you have already (+15bhp),

Intercoolers (a little more lag but combined with larger injectors means higher boost levels can be run, which means higher horsepower.)

all the above should give you a reliable (as Zs go) 400bhp at the crank.

Hope this helps,

Brian.

PaulG fitted his own NOS on his 300zx,so good idea to ask him about it.

357 RWBHP

Uk Manual

Air intake

SE Boost upgrade 14 p.s.i.

Remus Back Box

SE Front and centre sections, No Cats

Standard Chip

TLC

Heres what I got:

Jap SWB TT Manual

Blitz Intake

Standard exhaust with restrictors & cats removed

JWT Chip

Blitz Boost controller @ 15.0psi

298bhp@5500 rpm.

Totally flat from 5500 - 7000. Operator at the road reckons a good exhaust should see the power keep rising after 5500, maybe by 35-40bhp

Brian I feel you haven't researched the subject of Nitrous at all well, I have looked into it for the last few months, "JWT" respected Zed tuners world wide I think we all agree sell a Nitrous kit for the Zed along with the ECU upgrade needed as well, it allows faster spool up time for the turbos therefore eliminating lag, check out there web site for info. Also Nitrous has a secondary benefit of lowering the intake boost temperature acting as a secondary intercooler , therefore running higher then standard boost safer. Nitrous is only dangerous when used on engines which aren't in good condition!

Also "NOS" themselves market a proper designed kit for the TT Zed.

hi, smile.gif

thanx for the response and advice,

but i don't want to goto a induction system(i don't like the noise)

and don't fancy NOS need to change the bottle often.

don't fancy chipping it as i'm after a really drivable car not a fuel guzzler(just thought if i had a system that added fuel(2 or 4 extra injectors) if boost levels got to high that the standard chip couldn't cope(don't want to run any more than 14-15psi and dont want any lag)

thats why i thought about raising the compression to about 9.5 to 1 and using water injection(also if the bumf is anything to go by i wont need big intercoolers as the water will acted as a cooler)to supress detonation?

so what do you think am i barking up the wrong tree(or just barking!!!!!!)

---cheers---

Neil, Why is yours ready for a rebuild? Is there a problem with it?

If it's just because of the mileage then providing the car has been looked after you won't need a rebuild. Mine has done 130,000 and there are others with much higher mileage than me without rebuilds.

For extra power I believe he typical upgrade path is the best(Intake, Exhaust, boost, chip, intercooler etc.). I quite like the induction noise, it only comes in at about 4,000 RPM on my system.
