Hi everyone,

My car has failed the MOT due to the following reason.

Nearside front (INCORRECTLY FITTED AND CLIPS MISSING) brake hose stretched (found during steering lock to lock check) [2.2.D.1b]

The same failure also on the offside front.

The car has the big brake kit from Smithy fitted with the Goodridge braided hoses. I have taken a couple of pictures.

I am presuming that the hose previously passed through the hole indicated by the red arrow in the first picture. With the calipers moved further away now, it looks like the pipe doesn't reach to that routing point anymore, so it hasn't gone through it. Is this correct, or is it possible for it to go through that point, or do I need to get some new brake piping from the caliper that's longer so that it will reach to the routing point?

Any advice much appreciated.

Cheers

Colin

looks like you just need to get a new lenght of pipe put in, simple job for the pro's

When my braided hoses were fitted they went straight to the calliper and not the bit of pipe.

All the clips were removed and they are secured with cable ties.

It has passed an MOT like this as well.

I'm sure smithy will be along at some stage to let you know how they should be fitted.

Worth PM'ing him perhaps for some advice.

Good luck with it.

exactly as cooper SWB said, i fitted my braided lines straight from the inner arch and into the back of the calliper. no problems there but, looking at your hoses. they seem to have a female end (unless there is a union on the end). there are two types of goodridge hoses. i had to specify which ends to get so they would fit direct to the caliper. to be honest with you, it looks like your copper lines will reach with a little bending as they are fairly malleable.

They will bend in place no problem, just be careful, you dont wanna be driving at 150mph with a brake failure no sir'ee

The Mot testers name wasnt fussy harry by any chance?

Cheers everyone. Will take it back to where I got it fitted and just ask them to either bend the piping to fit, or make up a new bit of piping. Hopefully shouldn't cost too much.
