just interested in faults that have left you dead at the side of the road.

my 1st one the other week was the PTU, which seems to be popular at the moment.

ps im not talking nervous breakdowns due to running costs!!! biggrin.gif

Kinace you gotta remember Johns Zed isn't standard at all, bigger blowers, injectors and all, he is probably is putting the same HP through his rear wheels as the Ferrari 360 is developing at the crank.

Mark...I appreciate that.....but I will reiterate...the 360, which lets not forget is widely regarded as the finest drivers car currently available, does 0-60 in 4.2 and has a top end of a mere 184 mph (some reports claim more...the 184 was attained by Autocar).

In standard trim they pump out 400 bhp...now if John is getting that at his rear wheels fine...but the only way to sort out the whole 'my cars faster than your car' shit is to do it on a track day....leaving people behind on a public road doesn't prove a thing.

kinace - a modified Z is eminently capable of "blowing away" a Ferrari. Didn't you see a Supra do it in the Fast & the Furious ?

All John said was that he blew them away - FACT if true. Why do you then attack John's driving style - have you seen him drive ?

Just chill !! Too much testosterone in here !!

whats ya problem Kinace?

i suppose you have a ferrari as a 2nd car .lol

Anyway . . . . blue's best.

1994 UK TT with 42k miles and its on its on its 4th autobox - probably due no 5 anytime soon.

Big ends (including new crank)

Top hose just blew.

Yes - it gets a hard life

Yes - it costs

Yes - its probably been clocked

Yes - I love it !!!

Yet another demonstration of a friendly thread!!!

Nelson....you appear to confuse fantasy with reality...'Fast and Furious'...per-lease!!

As for an attack on someone's driving style....well, this really is getting rather tedious (stifled yawn)....are you being intentionally obtuse or is it really that difficult to see the point that I am making?

It is sadly apparent that a number of people think it 'big and clever' to treat the laws of the road with total disdain. I am not one of them. The most important part of any driver is what is between their ears...not what's on the end of their right leg...and I'm not talking about footwear.

Last time I mentioned this point I was called 'kinsanctimonious for chrissakes...we have been down this road before, and recently.

All I've ever done is advocate common sense which is evidently an alien concept to a number of people.

It seems to me that it is a valid point to make on a site where the only common denominator is ownership of a high performance vehicle....other people are entitled to their opinions.

So overtaking a car is showing a lack of commonsense and dangerous ? You've lost the argument about the relative merits of a heavily modded 300ZXTT vs. a stock Ferrari, so you are now changing the argument into one about safe driving.

The car in that film is REAL, it was borrowed from a private individual who won loads of prizes for it and it is probably faster than ANY stock Ferrari.

So why did u buy a 300ZX again ?!!

Sorry....I've lost WHAT argument? Oh, I see.....you're a self-appointed judge and jury on the particular merits of this 'argument'.

You just DON'T GET IT...DO YOU.....???

Christ! Why the hell even bother....but, once more, with feeling....for the obtuse......'Blowing Away' cars on the public road does not prove a thing about a car...any car.....but it says a lot about the driver.

I sure as hell didn't buy my Zed to be the quickest guy into the cemetary.

errm, why did you buy a zed exactly?????

if we used whats between our ears when purchasing a car, who here would have a 280 bhp, 155 mph gas guzzling lump of zed??!!

ok, you could say for its looks but thats a bit of a feeble reason for buying a beast like these!! biggrin.gif

and are you saying you NEVER break any road laws????

any way, were a bit of topic, and it is MY thread!!!!! biggrin.gif

I probably shouldn't, but I can't resist...

You claimed John couldn't possibly have blown away Ferrari's by quoting facts and figures. That constitutes an argument or I'm a Plastic Giraffe [where's the mirror!].

I (and probably everyone else here) fully understand the point(s) you are trying to make, but that doesn't excuse a) directly implying a criticism of John's driving style etc., b) implying that John was claiming his car was faster than the cars he blew away [WHICH HE WASN'T] , c) claiming(or implying) that by not obeying the laws of the road you must therefore not be safe or d) implying that overtaking a car is inherently dangerous and foolish.

The law is a means to an end. It does not (for reasons of workability and practicality) dictate what is morally right or wrong [just what is legal and illegal] - the rules of the road are also flawed because there are roads with similar speed limits which are cleary very different and therefore should be driven on at different speeds. So speed limits are not perfect, and do not take into account variable conditions - other traffic, weather, time of day, etc.

You are diggin a hole, STOP.

You seem to have your wires crossed - slowly read the posts above and you should be able to see that you have got your wires crossed and made assumptions which may or may not be true.

Remember...

I AM THE LAW !! (not annoyed - jusy trying to bring peace...CALM DOWN)

Dave.

Nope...no wires crossed here....never could quite see the connection between advocating common sense and what is construed as 'digging a hole'.

As regards your view on FACTS...well....the line 'FACT if true' says more than I could ever hope to.

For a 300zx to be a match for a 360 ? Well, you can never say never....I just don't think it has happened yet....Ferrari do know rather a lot about building high performance vehicles. It's worth remembering that roads tend to have bends in them.

I note in another thread that you describe me as 'pompous'....clearly a 'personal dig', amusing given your recent views on that kind of thing. I think you need to review your definition of the word...tell you what, have a look at some of your many postings...pick up the dictionary and look in the mirror.

Do I ever break the law? Does it matter?

As a matter of fact I do......I rob banks....but I always observe the speed limit on the way home......

Yer Ill in the fookin 'ed

I think "blew away a convoy of Ferrari's" tends to point to them being overtaken on a straight road.

I don't think John said they went into a series of bends and the Z came out as the best handling car on earth...

I've beaten a Ferrari myself and lets face it, 400bhp is not a huge amount of power for a Z is it?

Kinarse!

Well done Chris....so you've beaten a Ferrari too.....congratulations....public highway by any chance?

Urrrrmm...yes 400 bhp 'at the rear wheels' is rather a lot for a Zed actually...

1) Silver, actually...

2) Of course 300 Zeds are better than Ferraris. Better value, more reliable, nicer looking, cheaper to maintain, just as fast in every day use, less of a plod-magnet, not owned by Man U players, just as good handling in every day use, tyres are cheaper, you meet a better class of people at meets, I can park mine in my drive without appearing to say to the neighbours "look at what a big knob I've got" (unlike the black Ferrari which appears opposite from time to time), membership of the Z Club is less than £30, it's more comfortable and more comfortable to drive, the pedals aren't offset, the gear change isn't that damn-fool slotted affair, you don't have to be a mediterranean gorilla to get a good driving position, you can hear the stereo, I fit in mine - unlike the Testarossa and some other red thing I did a track day in - obviously there are no 6ft Italians for Ferrari to measure up, Mr Schumacher doesn't have one, they're insurable, they're less common (drove into London yesterday - 3 Ferraris, no Zs), they're more subtle and understated - if you're that nice a car, you don't have to SHOUT about it. End of rant. Oh, did I mention that they're better looking, especially in silver?

3) It seems that the Ferrari guys' reaction to John passing them on the road was an hour's worth of friendly chat. Not an argument. Seem like nice guys, really. What a pleasant change.

Yes it is a lot , but quite common in America, take a look at twinturbo.net, and members on there, there quite a few developing over 500 bhp.

And there are a couple of members on the Forum who have over 400 bhp at the wheels.

Bigger Blower, Injectors, ecu etc which John has is enough to develop over 400 bhp at the wheels.

Warren aka 300z another member on this forum 'proved' on the dyno day he developed 430 bhp at the wheels, Steve E whos Red zed was in CCC magazine produced 550 bhp at the crank.

With 6 grand spent on engine mods, most Zeds will develop over 400 bhp at the wheels.

I have seen a couple of Zeds and Supras blow away Ferraris at Santa Pod drag strip.

I think people must go to see psychiatrists, cos the problem is, theres some deep seated jealousy of needing to beat more expensive machinery and brag about it. The point is, the other person *is* driving a and doubt (s)he is bothered that you can beat him, (s)he could have bought a zx (you say they cost ;ess, so they could have bought one for everyday of the week) if theyd wanted to. As John pointed out, they are usually willing to chat about it etc, they are car enthusiasts who like to spend their money on a FERRARI or whatever, cos thats what they want. I assume they werent gathering round john poking fun at his nissan and were interested in the car etc. I doubt they were bothered that the zx only cost and theirs cost .

See ya

Drive safely - what you view as safe in your own eyes. Its up to the individual - just try not to injure anyone smile.gif

Only broken down once. Left bint in car with stereo, lights and air-con on and engine off while I popped into Sainsbury's for a packet of cigs. Huge queue, long time waiting, came back to find battery dead. POOOOO!!!

I think that's what this thread was originally about.

Just to bring things down a level though, if you try to advocate a sensible point of view on a open forum frequented by a bunch of horse power hungry petrol heads you've got to expect a dig or a piss take. It's human nature innit? Love to get a politician on here!
