The sealbelt mechanism on the driver's side seems to have gone - it will stop pulling out entirely and then will pull out all the way and not pull back in again.

 

I've found a second hand one from a broken car that i can get for £18 - first, is this a good deal?

 

Second, is replacing it something that a regular guy could do, or would a mechanic be needed?

Does anyone have a guide to doing this?

I forgot to mention, it's a '92 Jap TT, so has the sealbelt mechanism in the door.

Extremely common problem. Hopefully the replacement unit will be ok, you cant really tell till its fitted.

 

Its a very simple 30min job, I would recommend doing yourself. You just have to remove the Door card, and unbolt the old one and bolt in the new one.

yeh, £30-£50 for a pair is the norm

Hmm, i'm not sure if my last post was removed because someone thought i was being lazy and not doing my own homework. Just in case, i have browsed through 343 threads containing the words "seat belt" but i really cannot find the thread.

Have also spent an hour or so on google, looking for "300zx seat belt change" and "300zx door card" but all i find are adverts, no help at all.

 

So, is there any chance someone could point me in the right direction?

I did give this a go over the weekend, but didn't know i had to roll down the windows. This was probably why it wouldn't come off.
