Massive thanks for all the advice and for getting the disk to me so quickly. It slotted in perfectly and connected up dead easy. And there's no need to call me back (I left you a message earlier with a question but I sussed it).

 

A related question for anyone who understands these things. I'm formatting as FAT32 as I need ultimate performance. This limits me to a 32Mb partition. I now need to format my second partition. If I create this as an extended partition instead of a primary one, will this mean that the second partition 'looks' as though it's part of the same drive ?

 

i.e. the first partition is drive E - if I format the rest as an extended partition, will that also be part of drive E ?

P.P.S. Glen, I just ran a performance test on the new drive - uncached performance is 160% better than previous and cached performance is 1,400% better than previous. I would describe myself as moderately content !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im pretty sure it was a IBM DESKSTAR I sent you, these drives always win the performance award.. nice!

 

You may have set the drive to 32GB clip and that is why you can only see 32GB, check the jumpers and set it to SLAVE.

 

If you do wish to partition, you will need to format the extended drive - if the primary partition is drive E then the secondary or extended drive will be drive F

On another note, if you are doing video editing then you need Adobe Premier 6.02 - it cocks a snoot at the competition.
