Hello everyone i would really love to buy one of these great cars and ive read loads of info on the net and a lot of it is saying that these cars arnt really a everyday car, but as this would be my only car i was wondering if it would be wise to buy one? i dont drive everyday as i live next door to my work place smile.gif but i do a lot of motorway driving on the weekends would i be better off looking for a NA as ive read that the turbos will go and when they do they cost a lot to fix? as i said before i really would love to have one of these sitting on my drive smile.gif please can you give me some advice on this it would be a great help thanks in advance.

If you are not using it every day then you shouldn't have any problems.

You will get around 25mpg on a long run but around town you can get down to 15-18mpg which starts costing ££££

Turbos should be OK if they have been looked after and many people have very high mileages on the originals.

These are high performance cars and parts wear out quicker and cost more than a normal car.

You can't buy a supercar thats cheap to run frown.gif

Just make sure you buy a good one. Buy a bad one and you can easily spend as much again putting it right.

Hey Bazza!

Of course, we ain't biased on this site so I would definately go and buy one wink.gif Take your time in buying though mate cos there are some shocking examples out there, being sold by complete Criminals (REMOVED)

(sorry Pacman, you cant say that publicly, but he can contact you privately for warnings you might give about individual car dealers : craig)

Anyhoos, I use my Zed as my everyday car and it fecking great. You see, it's my everyday car, I drive it everyday!!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I also do a lot of M-way driving in it cos my family live in Pasty-land, and have always had great trips. Just keep an eye on the Speedo cos the needle seems to up really quickly. Nearly as quickly as the petrol needle goes down...

Like Chris says though, don't expect to buy one and it be cheap to run. It ain't. But you get what you pay for in life - having the car sat on your drive is worth the £3 a day insurance even if you only look at it!

Go for it mate!

They are very nice cars indeed.

The Non-Turbo and the Turbo cars have very simalar mpg. The Non-Turbo probably gets slightly more.

Yes changing the turbos is expensive but everything else to change will cost about the same amount.

I think you should have a go in a NA (Naturaly Asperated - Non-turbo) and then have a go in a Turbo. You will find the difference in performance very surprising. The if you can afford it, buy the NA then in a few years sell and get a TT (Twin Turbo).

In the US it is amazing the number of people who buy a NA then after seeing a TT or having a go of one, want to either sell their car and get a TT or convert it.

Let me tell you. There is a virus that spreads with in the 300ZX community. And its called Need-More-Power-itus. After a year or so, you will want more power because you have got used to it, and it no longer feels powerful. With a NA, you max you can get out of it is 350-400bhp and that will cost you £10,000 to do. With a turbo the sky's the limit. £1,000 on a turbo will get it close to 400bhp.

Stuart

Barry,

Mine is an everyday driver!

No major problems (touch wood)

I did buy my Z with the 2 major jobs on it done already, New turbo's and timing belt replaced 2 weeks before I bough it (other work was carried out too!)

It's best to look about for a good one, it must have service history, reciepts of work carried out, HPI checked and also ask loads of questions www.300zx.org.uk have a look on that site for all the information you need.

If possible take someone of this forum with you to view the car your thinking of buying, they are a good bunch really and will help if they are local, where are you based?

Insurance will not be any different on the N/A as it is on the TT but it will make a difference if you buy an import TT compared to a UK TT as import insurance is higher (i.e. N/A Z's are all imported, as are most TT models) finding a UK TT Z is not that easy, well a good UK TT Z anyway.

I would tell you to buy one but you have to weigh it up properly first, there is no point skinting yourself to buy one, insure it and then find out it needs work doing to it (which by this time you can't afford!)

It will drink petrol alot quicker than other cars as it has a 3.0 TT lump, but then that depends how you drive it!!

It took me 9'ish months to find my UK TT Z and that was after a very nasty purchase from Sahill Motors (aka Veilside.co.uk) that was a 2-seater import N/A and I would have the Twin Turbo over the N/A everytime.

Hope this helps some,

Any questions feel free to mail me.

Matty.

I only use the brakes so I can accelerate all over again.

Hi Barry - mine's been a daily driver since Aug 1999 - and long may it continue!

Mine carries me to work and back 5 days a week, thats an 80 miles round trip of pure exctasy without the drugs! It may cost but driving it is worth every penny.
